Earlier in the semi-finals Ludhiana and Ferozepur warded off stiff challenge from their respective opponents. Ludhiana toiled hard to pip Moga 3-2 while Ferozepur survived many anxious moments against Fazilka whom they overpowered 5-4 to secure berths in the summit clash. Besides Ludhiana 11 teams — Gurdaspur Mansa Ferozepur Patiala Amritsar Jalandhar Moga Fazilka Sangrur Bathinda and Mohali — battled it out for top honours. In the match for hard-line cup Fazilka drubbed Moga 8-4 to secure third position.

A total of 4-kg heroin estimated to be worth Rs28 crore in international market and drug money worth Rs37 lakh besides an Activa (without number plate) were recovered from three members of the gang. They were nabbed from a house situated on outskirts of Khadoor village in Ludhiana late evening on Monday. Other members of the gang were identified as Arun Kumar Raj Kumar and Anjli. “They were hiding at their house situated on outskirts of the village following a scuffle with villagers earlier in the day” said Sohal.

      Ludhiana March 15A fine century by opener Abhijeet Garg (112 runs off 96 balls) steered Punjab XI to beat Rest of Punjab XI Red by six wickets in the opening match of the PCA Trident Cup Triangular Series played at Gandhi ground Amritsar on Monday. Rest of Punjab XI Red scored 225 runs after losing nine wickets in 50 overs. For Punjab XI Abhinav Sharma was the pick of bowlers who scalped three wickets for 36 runs in 10 overs. Punjab XI achieved the target in 37.1 overs losing just four wickets. Punjab XI Rest of Punjab XI Red and Rest of Punjab XI Green are taking part in this tournament sponsored by the Trident Group in an endeavour to promote the game of cricket in Punjab.

In the bench press event Anu and Harpreet secured the first and second positions respectively in the junior section whereas in the senior section Lakhan won the top position and Satyam finished second. Similarly in the bicep curl competition Sartaj and Ashu won first two positions in the junior category while Pargat and Naseem secured first and second position respectively in the senior group. Jaspal Singh and Jasdeep Singh distributed the prizes among position holders.

      Ludhiana March 15All doctors of the Ludhiana Civil Hospital today condemned the firearm injury of an on-duty medical officer at the Amritsar Civil Hospital and went on a two-hour strike. The strike was held from 10 am to 12 noon on call given by PCMS Association Punjab. The doctors have demanded strict action in the incident. Dr Rohit Rampal president PCMS Association Civil Hospital Ludhiana and Dr Davinder secretary of the association said doctors had been working day in and day out during the pandemic and it was very unfortunate that they were given this kind of treatment. Similar strikes have been called for in all government health institutions in the state.

Ludhiana a district that was among Punjab's hardest hit in the first wave of COVID-19 has been showing a worrying uptick in cases since the last fortnight. Forty-nine of the 56 students who tested positive were form Government Senior Secondary School at Bhundri village. Five of the new cases were teachers and three healthcare workers health officials said. Ludhiana's death toll now stands at 1593 including 533 from other places.

In another case Meena a resident of near Nirmal Akal Bunga Sahib gurudwara today registered a complaint that her mobile phone was snatched by motorcycle-borne duo. “Two people on a bike came from behind and snatched my phone and fled towards the Transport Nagar side” she said in her complaint. The two bike-borne accused have been identified as Ajay Kumar resident of Vadda Gurudwara Dhandari Kalan and Bablu a resident of Prince Nagar Dhandari. In another snatching incident Asha Rani a resident of Phase II GK Estate in Mundian Kalan fell victim to two motorcycle-borne persons who snatched her gold chain.

Those who tested positive included two healthcare workers four teachers one school/college staff member and 26 students. A staff member from AS College Khanna also tested positive today. The total active cases in the district today were 907 while 237 were home quarantined. He said the total number of new cases had swollen four times compared to the total cases last week.

There is an underpass beneath the overbridge near the chowk which is regularly used by vehicles. Vehicles exiting the underpass often become victims of road mishaps as commuters using the highway have no awareness about the existence of the underpass. Waterlogging poor lighting and scattered debris have made the lives of commuters miserable. There is an urgent need to improve the road and warn commuters to exit the underpass at a maximum speed limit of 40 kmph to save lives.

      Ludhiana March 14The Daresi police have arrested two persons for allegedly sodomising an eight-year-old boy. The accused have been identified as Vivek and Nirbhay both residents of Kirpal Nagar. Later his wife heared shrieks of their son when she reached the place she was shocked to see that the two accused were sodomising him. The victim's father said after the incident his son was admitted to the Civil Hospital where he was undergoing treatment. Investigating officer ASI Balwinder Singh said both accused were arrested.

      Ludhiana March 13A few persons who had bought a used car from a shop at the NK Car bazar in Janakpuri and had come to return the vehicle alleging fault in the car fired at the shopkeeper when he refused to accept the vehicle. Cops said the CCTV footage was being checked to verify the truth. Meanwhile the video of the person against whom the allegation of firing was levelled also went viral. He alleged that he had gone to return the car but had not resorted to firing. He alleged that the car bazar owner was trying to implicate him and his friend in a fake case.
