The accused were identified as Dr Amarjit Singh owner of Ratan Hospital Ludhiana and two touts Rani and Warsha of Tibba Road Ludhiana. “We have filed a complaint with the police for the registration of a case against the doctor and touts for conducting the gender test. According to information the touts had arranged the deal for the sex-determination test at the hospital. According to the police the touts had taken Rs 9000 from the woman after the gender test and for revealing the gender of baby in the womb.
    • Cops trace hand over 61 mobiles to owners | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana March 4The Ludhiana police on Thursday traced and handed over 61 mobile phones that had been stolen or snatched from various places to their rightful owners at Police Lines here. Police Commissioner Rakesh Aggarwal handed over the phones to owners today. The police said its cyber cell has traced these 61 mobiles and all recovered mobiles are smartphones. The owners had informed to the police after they had lost their mobiles. The police then conducted an investigation to trace the mobiles.

      Our CorrespondentRaikot March 4The Ludhiana (Rural) police claimed to have busted two gangs of drug peddlers that have been involved in distribution and smuggling of drugs and narcotics. The main accused were identified as Sukhpal Singh of Shimla Puri Ludhiana Mandeep Singh of Dhaler village in Sangrur district Honey Sehgal of Haibowal Ludhiana Vishal Anand of Ambala and Rakesh Kumar of Badayun in Uttar Pradesh. Senior Superintendent of Police Ludhiana (Rural) Charanjit Singh Sohal informed that the cops supervised by Superintendent of Police (D) Balwinder Singh had launched a special campaign against drug peddlers during which secret information about illegal activities of two separate gangs was received. Having received tipoff about the said gangs police personnel led by DSP(D) Rajesh Sharma and incharge CIA Simarjit Singh conducted raids at various places and succeeded in nabbing the accused from various places. “Having received inputs about transport of huge quantities of habit-forming tablets and opium in-charge CIA Simarjit Singh was deployed under supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (D) Rajesh Sharma and the team succeeded in seizing 2 kg of opium and 180000 habit forming tablets along with three vehicles used in crime” said Charanjit Singh Sohal.

      Our CorrespondentRaikot March 3Robbers snatched Rs 9 lakh in cash from a truck driver after killing him near Chaukimaan village on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur highway on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The incident took place when the victim Inderjit Singh of Landey Ke was returning from Mandi Gobindgarh after delivering a consignment of metal scrap. He had informed the employers about the receipt of Rs 9 lakh from the scrap purchasers. Later on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday the truck was found stationed on a highway. We cannot divulge details now as it might hamper the progress of the case” said the DSP (D).

    • Massive plantation drive along 14 km stretch of Buddha Nullah begins | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana March 2A massive plantation drive along the 14-km stretch of the Buddha Nullah has been started by Baba Sewa Singh chief of Dera Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib in association with the district administration and the MC Ludhiana on Tuesday. Under the special drive 8-10-ft-tall saplings would be planted throughout the stretch by Dera Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib. On Tuesday around 500 big plants and trees have been brought to Ludhiana from Khadur Sahib via tractor-trailers. Various trees including 'peepal' 'bohar' and 'neem' are mainly being planted under the drive. He asked the authorities to depute permanent staff to ensure proper upkeep of saplings and watering regularly which would enhance the green cover around the Buddha Nullah.

Orders in this regard were received by the police via email from the Ministry of Finance and Department of Revenue office of Competent Authority and the Administrator New Delhi. The SHO being the competent authority had also passed freezing order on the property. The competent authority in Delhi had also served notice to the affected party this February to produce its viewpoint about the attachment of the property. The Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal had recently said that the process to attach the property worth Rs87 lakh of eight drug smugglers had also started.

      Nikhil BhardwajTribune News ServiceLudhiana March 2Suspecting a drug racket being run by former BJP councillor Satish Nagar the Ludhiana police conducted a raid at the building of the BJP leader in the Chawni mohalla on Monday night and recovered 129200 intoxicant tablets. 4 registered a case under Sections 22-C 25-29-61-85 under the NDPS Act against the leader Satish Nagar his tenants Anup Kumar Himmat and Rajinder. The accused leader Satish Nagar who remained in police custody till late night was released citing his pending role verification in the smuggling network. “The police cannot implicate any wrong person in a drugs case and similarly the police cannot let any smuggler go scot-free. So far the police probe found that Satish owned the building and he was not aware about his tenants running the smuggling network “ he said.

Joga Singh represented the country in the Asian Cross Country Championship at Pune in 2004 and secured the silver medal.
