      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana August 12Eight fresh cases of Covid-19 have been reported from the district today. Civil Surgeon Dr Kiran Gill said 87409 cases from Ludhiana district and 11633 cases from other districts or states have been confirmed. A total of 2095 patients of Ludhiana and 1047 of other districts have succumbed to the virus to date as per the record of the Health Department Ludhiana. A total of 9266 samples were collected for Covid testing today. Out of 87409 confirmed cases of Ludhiana district 79705 patients with 1784 deceased persons belonged to Ludhiana city subdivision while the remaining cases belonged to five other subdivisions including Jagraon Raikot Khanna Samrala and Payal in the district.

      Ludhiana August 12Fulfilling a long-pending demand of Muslims Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu today laid the foundation stone of development works worth Rs 38.93 lakh at the Sherpur burial ground. The money would be used to build a boundary wall rooms and to maintain the graveyard. The Mayor was accompanied by Punjab Backward Classes Land Development and Finance Corporation (Backfinco) vice-chairman Mohammad Gulab. He said the Muslim community in Sherpur Dhandari Focal Point and surrounding areas had been seeking infrastructure upgrade of the burial place for several years following which he had taken up the matter with Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and the Mayor for financial assistance.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana August 9A day after a big portion of Tajpur Road caved in trapping a commercial vehicle near Amrit Kanda Chowk the Municipal Corporation (MC) has started the work to repair the damaged sewer line. According to information the vehicle was parked outside a liquor vend when the portion of the road caved in. MC Superintending Engineer Rajinder Singh said a sewer line had got damaged due to which the road portion had caved in. He said the work to replace the damaged sewer line had been completed. A big portion of Ishmeet Singh Road near the Model Town cremation ground had caved-in last month.

      Ludhiana August 7Nine persons tested positive for Covid and one death due to the disease was reported in the district today. A total of 14 patients — nine from Ludhiana district and five from other states/districts — tested positive in the last 24 hours. The total number of patients belonging to Ludhiana is 87343 while 11624 patients belong to other districts/states. The total number of persons who lost their lives to the disease is 2095 from Ludhiana and 1047 from other districts. As many as 8041 samples of suspected patients were sent for testing today and their results are expected shortly.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana August 5Several Dalit and religious organisations held a protest demanding registration of a case against a person who had allegedly attacked a family over minor issue. Protesters alleged that the assailant had called his goons and attacked a family in Bachitar Nagar but the Jamalpur police instead registered a case against the family and no action was taken against the assailant. Today protesters jammed Chandigarh Road where traffic remained affected for over an hour. The dharna was lifted after Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Rupinder Kaur promised prompt action.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana August 3Four MC tap water samples collected from Chandar Nagar and New Chandar Nagar located near the highly polluted Buddha Nullah have failed the laboratory test. Out of the four samples two samples were collected from houses of New Chandar Nagar one from the Government Primary School of Chandar Nagar and one from Bhola Handloom Store in New Chandar Nagar. As per the report prepared by the Department of Microbiology PAU Ludhiana the water samples were found “bacteriologically not safe”. coli were detected in the failed water samples. Even the sample collected from my house has failed the test.”Meanwhile Rawal has made a written complaint to the Punjab State Human Rights commission regarding the failed water samples.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana August 2Irked by delaying tactics of the government over the issue of reduction of non-practicing allowance (NPA) veterinary doctors laid a siege to the office of the Deputy Director Animal Husbandry here on Monday. They held a massive demonstration on the premises of the Deputy Director's office and expressed anguish amid sloganeering against the government. Deputy Director Dr Paramdeep Singh Walia Assistant Director Dr Neelam Grover and senior veterinary officers from all tehsil headquarters besides veterinary officers from the district participated in the sit-in. The gathering was addressed by state general secretary Dr Darshan Kheri state organising secretary Dr Gagandeep Kaushal Dr Amanpreet Singh and Dr Parshotam Singh. Medical and veterinary doctors of the state are on a warpath since the past five weeks despite that the government is still playing dilly dallying tactics.

On an average 60-80 farmers sit at the site to register their protest against the Union Government. As per information the operations of the dry port have been shut since January. Many dialogues were held between the administration and farmers to let the operations at the dry port continue but farmers refused to budge. It was only after requesting farmers to clear the containers they had allowed the port to operate for a few days.

He said 378.77 acres of land has been procured for the project at Rs 120 crore. A high-level bridge across the Buddha Nullah along the approach road to the project site has also been constructed to ensure hassle-free passage. A provision of Rs 22 crore has been made in the Punjab Budget 2021-22 for creation of capital assets in the valley. The state government was developing the cycle valley with an aim to attract new investors not only from within the country but also from overseas.

      Nitin JainTribune News ServiceLudhiana August 3The work has begun for four and six laning of the existing Ludhiana-Ropar national highway 205K including a spur to Kharar with Ludhiana bypass under the Bharatmala Pariyojana the government has confirmed. While the first component comprises a 37.7-km-long stretch of National Highway-205K the remaining 28.3-km-long portion including Ludhiana bypass will be executed in the second part. While the 37.7-km-long first stretch of the greenfield highway will cost Rs 794.49 crore including Rs 410 crore for acquiring 260 hectares land the second component of 28.3 km including Ludhiana bypass will be constructed at the cost of Rs 858.05 crore including Rs 461.71 crore for acquiring 337.27 hectares of land. Chaba revealed that three railway overbridges to be built under the project have also been approved by the Northern Railway. “The plan and profile of the project has been submitted and the alignment has been approved” shared the ADC (General).

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana July 8The crime wing of the city police has arrested four persons and recovered illegal weapons from their possession. The accused have been identified as Mohd Ahmed (21) a student of Bsc and Abhinav Kumar (20) both from Bihar. The other accused are fruit seller Aditya alias Abhi (21) of Rishi Nagar and Satinder Singh alias Happy (31) of Hambran road working at Mansa Hardware Store in Ghumar Mandi. The police have recovered two country-made pistols of .32 bore and six live cartridges from the accused. Additional DCP (Investigations) Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said acting on a tip-off a raid was conducted at Y Block in Rishi Nagar from where the accused were nabbed.
