      Ludhiana (Punjab), Feb 14 (ANI): Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) paid tribute to the martyrs on the second anniversary of Pulwama attack. They organised candle march in Punjab’s Ludhiana on February 14. They remembered the brave hearts of Pulwama who sacrificed their lives for the nation two years ago on February 14, 2019.

    • Ludhiana police set up day care center for children of migrant workers
      Ludhiana (Punjab), Jan 08 (ANI): Ludhiana police in collaboration with an NGO has set up a 'Girl Child Day Care Facility' for the migrant labourers. Children of migrant labourers are soft targets of sexual harassment as they are left alone at home. First of its kind, this facility has been set up to take care of the girl child whose parents are off to work. Provided at free of cost, the facility takes care of the education and food of the children. One of the migrant labourer said, "We are tension free as everything is taken care of here, from education to safety."

      Ludhiana (Punjab), Nov 11 (ANI): After National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed blanket ban on use and sale of firecrackers in Delhi-NCR till November 30, firecracker markets in Ludhiana are witnessing surge in demand. According to a firecracker seller, people are coming from Delhi-NCR to Ludhiana to celebrate Diwali. Sellers this year are going ‘vocal for local’ and boycotting Chinese firecrackers. Ban was imposed on firecrackers due to deteriorating air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

    • Farm laws: BKU farmers forcibly shut Reliance stores in Ludhiana
      Ludhiana (Punjab), Nov 08 (ANI): Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) farmers protested at MBD Mall in Ludhiana over farm laws and closed the reliance stores at the mall. Farmers in Punjab have been protesting against the three agriculture laws -- The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 -- since they were passed by the Parliament. Recently, Punjab Assembly had passed a resolution rejecting three farm laws enacted by the central government with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, later leading a delegation to Governor VP Singh Badnore urging him to give his assent to three new bills by the assembly.

Cinema hall owners started prepping up to welcome the movie-goers with all the precautions in Ludhiana. Owner of Solitaire Cinema, Gurdeep Singh Gosha said, “Cinema is one of the best medium of entertainment. Due to COVID, cinema industry got affected a lot. We are happy as at least it got opened.” Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced guidelines to open cinema halls in India in unlock 5 from Oct 15.

The protest was against the passing of new agriculture reform bills in the Parliament. One of the protestors said, “We will protest till centre government does not cancel these bills as it curbs our rights.” Farmers across country are divided on the issue.
