      Ludhiana February 22Days after the Punjab Colonisers and Property Dealers' Association raised questions over the MC's drive for recovery of sharing charges and snapping “irregular” sewer connections of some colonies a committee of the MC conducted a meeting to discuss the matter today. The committee members have recommended that sharing/connectivity charges should be collected from the GLADA for the colonies that are located outside MC's jurisdiction. The committee is headed by councillor Jai Prakash and councillors including Mamta Ashu Sarabjit Sigh Laddi Om Prakash Ratra Sunny Bhalla among others are members of the committee.

      Ludhiana February 22Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) Ludhiana organised a one day workshop on “Recent Trends in Livestock Nutrition to optimise their Productivity”. Dr PS Brar Director of Extension Education GADVASU briefed that the workshop was part of Livestock Nutritional Awareness Week being organised by the university to enlighten the farmers regarding the importance of balanced nutrition for livestock. Dr US Chahal Head Department of Animal Nutrition enumerated various facilities being provided by the department for the benefit of farmers. Dr JPS Gill Director of Research highlighted the research achievements of the university in the field of animal nutrition. Dr Inderjeet Singh Vice-Chancellor GADVASU remarked that promoting balanced nutrition is critical to boost productivity of livestock in the country.

      Ludhiana February 22A five-day training course on “Food Preservation” jointly organised by the Department of Extension Education and the Skill Development Centre concluded at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). The course was held at Beela village in Pakhowal block Ludhiana under the entrepreneurship programme for scheduled castes. As many as 30 farm women attended the training course which aimed at imparting entrepreneurial skills needed for running a particular venture. Dr Dharminder Singh Senior Extension Scientist urged the farm women to unite and form self-help groups for empowerment. Dr Parkash Singh Agriculture Officer explained different schemes being offered by the department to the farmers and farm women.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana February 19The Ludhiana police claimed to have arrested a notorious drug peddler and recovered 4020 intoxicating tablets from his possession. Verma said later during the probe it was found that the seized medicines were banned intoxicating tablets. During the preliminary probe the police found that the accused runs a salon near the DMCH where he book clients to sell the banned drugs. The accused disclosed that he had bought the banned medicines from somebody residing in Kila Mohalla .He would also be booked in the case. The police are expecting to bust the entire supply chain of banned drugs in the case.

As per the complainant on February 20 her sister had gone to the forest area alongside the Sutlej where the accused raped her. “When the accused took me to Amritsar he assured that he will soon get married with me. 15-year-old violated in KhannaA 15-year-old girl was raped at Payal in police district of Khanna. She said the accused had developed a relationship with her and took her to his house where he raped her.

      Ludhiana: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has inked an agreement with Green Energy Solutions for the commercialisation of modified PAU fixed dome type janta model biogas plant having capacity from 25 m3/day to 500 m3/day technology. Dr NS Bains Director of Research PAU and Harbhajan Singh Bains proprietor Green Energy Solutions signed the memorandum of agreement (MoA) on behalf of their respective organisations. As per the agreement the university offers non-exclusive rights to the firm for making Modified PAU fixed dome type janta model biogas plant within the country. Dr Bains congratulated Dr Rajan Aggarwal head Department of Renewable Energy Engineering and Dr Sarbjit Singh Sooch Principal Scientist Department of Renewable Energy Engineering for developing and commercialising the technology.

Experts from the Directorate of Extension Education and the Department of Food and Nutrition provided tips for baking and demonstrated the preparation of cake in kadahi/pressure cooker biscuits (salty and sweet) caramel cake sponge cake eggless cake coconet castles and icing of cakes. Nutrition for local foods and entrepreneurship development were also discussed.

      Sahnewal February 20Another accident victim of road mishap occurred near Sahnewal on Wednesday succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Arora Hospital Ludhiana yesterday. A number of persons who received minor injuries in the accident have been discharged. While interacting with this correspondent investigating officer Raghuveer Singh said: “The devotees were taking an idol for immersion in the Sidhwan canal near Doraha. Men were travelling in one tempo while women along with the idol were travelling in the other vehicle. Sahnewal SHO Balwinder Singh said nowadays due to idol immersion he had deployed a special team to keep a check on any sort of nuisance being created by inebriated groups which hardly care about traffic rules.

Farmers also kept a two-minute silence on the Amritsar-Delhi railway tracks in Ludhiana paying tributes to those who had lost their lives during the ongoing stir against the laws. Bharpoor Singh Tharike of the BKU Ekta (Ugrahan) said “On the call given by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha we are sitting on the tracks at the Ludhiana railway station. More than 200 farmers have died in the ongoing stir.”“The government should hear the voice of the farmers and repeal these laws. Moreover the farmers and activists arrested for raising their voice in support of farmers should be immediately released.

      Ludhiana: One of the twins born in the park of the Civil Hospital here on Thursday died today. The board members include Dr Surabhi Dr Alisha and Dr Renu. The couple was not provided ambulance and when the woman started going towards the gate of the hospital on foot she started having labour pains. There she gave birth to the twins in the park while her family members were inside the hospital arranging for ambulance. The man and his son allegedly pushed Pashupati resulting in his head hitting the footpath and his death on the spot.

It was further directed that important phone numbers of the police control room 112 local SHO ACP and ADCP must be displayed prominently in the branches. The owners were asked to provide the list of all employees with their mobile numbers to the police stations concerned. The orders had come into operation with immediate effect and would remain in force for two months the CP added.
