      Ludhiana: HVM Convent Senior Secondary School New Subhash Nagar Jodhewal Basti celebrated Basant Panchami with cultural fervour. It is celebrated to worship Goddess Saraswati the symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Students recited poems and sung festive songs. To mark the occasion the tiny tots of the Kindergarten came attired in yellow clothes and brought yellow coloured snacks and food items in tiffins. Artworks related to the fetivals were decorated on the boards.

      Ludhiana February 17The special branch wing of the Ludhiana Commissionerate has launched a drive to nab the proclaimed offenders (POs) wanted in various cases. The main target of the branch is to nab POs mainly wanted in drug smuggling cases and heinous crimes. The special branch in-charge Inspector Beant Juneja nabbed more than 25 absconders mostly wanted in drug smuggling and heinous crimes. Today the special branch nabbed PO wanted in two cases. He was already facing three more cases including drug smuggling and theft and was out on bail Juneja said.

    • Ludhiana man held for murder by Nalagarh police | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceSolan February 9The Nalagarh police have arrested Ludhiana resident Karamjit in a murder case of 2019. He was brought from Ludhiana on a production warrant as he was lodged in a jail in some other case. He disclosed the involvement of Karamjit in the murder of a 25-year-old Nabha youth. “The deceased boy has now been identified as Sandeep Singh a resident of Ramdasia Mohalla Nabha in Punjab. The motive of his murder will be ascertained during the three-day remand of Karamjit” added the SP.
    • Civic body to use new vehicles for recovery | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana: The MC has purchased four vehicles for its staff for visiting various areas for official works. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said these vehicles would be used mainly for recovery purpose. “One vehicle will be stationed at each zone. Staff of the building branch property tax and other branches would be able to use these vehicles to visit various areas for recovery purpose” he said.

      Ludhiana: Four inmates of the Ludhiana Central Jail were booked for possessing eight mobile phones and 23 sachets of tobacco during a surprise checking. The Jail Department has launched a probe to verify connivance of any jail official in the matter. The jail inmates have been identified as Daljit Singh Gurvinder Singh Vishal Kumar and Gurvinder Singh. Investigating officer Assistant Jail Superintendent Puneet Garg said suspecting the possession of some banned things a surprise checking was conducted in the jail during which mobile phones and tobacco sachets were recovered from the four inmates. Earlier also such recoveries were made by the Jail Department but officials or other persons who facilitate the entry of such banned things in the jail were not identified in most of the cases by the department.

      Ludhiana February 16ATC Bashers along with M Jain Superkings NB Scorchers Techno Finishers and Redhill Rippers scripted victories in their respective matches on the third day of the 4th JITO Premier League being organised by the youth wing of the Jain International Trade Organisation on the SCD Government College ground here today. The highlight of their win was an unbeaten 40 runs by Kanav Jain. The second match was played between M Jain Superkings and Sweet Touch Strikers in which the former came out triumphant by six wickets. In other matches NB Scorchers defeated SP & SV Riders by 30 overs; Techno Finishers beat Bhomia Sunrisers by four wickets and Redhill Rippers overpowered Charlie Strikers by 12 runs. Sixteen teams are taking part in the week-long league being organised with the theme 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao'.

Gurpreet Kaur a student appearing for her science pre-board exam said sitting on the floor was not easy especially when exams are going on.       Tribune News ServiceLudhiana February 16The Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC) Ludhiana has bagged a research project 'Modelling interrelationships among air quality crop residue burning soil moisture and crop yield using geospatial technology' from the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS). Dr Brijendra Pateriya Director PRSC stated that this pilot study was a novel attempt to evaluate the interrelationship among air quality crop residue burning soil moisture and crop yield. The project team is led by Dr RK Setia senior scientist along with Dr Sharad Gupta of the PRSC and Dr H Sembhi from the University of Leicester United Kingdom. Dr Setia said the effect of initial soil moisture on the concentration of emitted gases due to the crop residue burning and also the effect of residue burning on wheat yield in parts of Central Punjab would be studied using satellite remote sensing. Dr Gupta added that the interrelationship among crop yield — soil moisture — crop residue burning-air quality would also be evaluated.

Meanwhile trials to select the Ludhiana district senior men and women teams will be held at the same venue from 11.30 am onwards and selected players would participate in the Senior Punjab State Softball Championship.       Ludhiana February 16The Ludhiana police claimed to have arrested a man who had brutally killed his neighbour over old enmity in New Shimlapuri. The JCP said on February 10 Jora Singh (55) was standing near his house and the accused came on his motorcycle and started throwing stones at stray dogs. When the deceased stopped the accused from doing the same the latter turned furious and attacked the victim with a sharp weapon. The accused also had old enmity with the victim as a few months ago both had a scuffle over some issue. During preliminary questioning the accused confessed that after killing Jora he had thrown the sharp weapon (knife) on an empty plot on the Dhandra road.

It was an open test for MRIS and non-MRIS students in which they could participate by filling the online registration form prior to the test. The scholarship serves as an endeavour to recognise and reward excellence among deserving students. Anju Dhawan principal MRIS Ludhiana said the scholarship was designed for helping deserving students who could not afford quality education. The show was meant for all mothers of Kindergarten students who walked the ramp with their kids.

      Our CorrespondentLudhiana February 15Alleged illegal construction and major alteration in the standard design of an MIG flat in Dugri Urban Estate Phase II here has caused damage to another flat on the upper floor of the building where lintel has partly given way walls have developed cracks and plaster has started coming off. The complainant has maintained that owners of the flat on the lower floor were carrying out a major alteration and reconstruction for which they had demolished all internal walls of the flat and as a consequence the lintel of his flat on the upper floor had partly given way. “Some of the walls in my flat have developed cracks and plaster has started peeling off. Besides the financial loss caused to me due to the illegal construction in the lower floor flat my whole family is living in a state of fear as in the absence of adequate support the entire structure can collapse at any time” said Jagjit. “On the receipt of the report action as per rules would be taken against the allottee” the GLADA officials said.
