      Ludhiana: SDP Senior Secondary School organised a competition of students to hone their creative skills. Nearly 100 students participated in the event and exhibited their innovative ideas by preparing various useful items out of waste material. Jasveer Singh Chauhan appreciated the innovative creation prepared by the students and awarded the students with medals and certificates. Besides an interactive session was held for the bus drivers of the school to make them more cautious while driving. Winners from different categories were Mridul Jain (VII) Pavneet Kaur (class V) Arnesh Joshi (class IV) Manraj Singh (class III).

      Ludhiana February 11A total of 691 aspirants turned up on the first day of the trials being conducted by the Punjab Sports Department at different venues across the district on Thursday. These selection trials are being organised at five different venues GHG Khalsa College Gurusar Sadhar Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana Naresh Chander Stadium and Kishori Lal Jethi Government Senior Secondary Smart School Khanna besides Guru Nanak Stadium Ludhiana in 18 sports disciplines to register the players (boys and girls U-14 16 and 19) with the school sports wings in Ludhiana district for the session 2021-22. Ravinder Singh District Sports Officer Ludhiana said the maximum number of aspirants (97) appeared in the game of boxing while only five players attended the trials in lawn tennis. The break-up (game-wise) of aspirants is athletics (54 boys and 24 girls total 78) archery (8 boys and 4 girls total 12) basketball (20 boys) badminton (7 boys and 2 girls total 9) boxing ( 55 boys and 42 girls total 97) cycling (7 boys and 4 girls total 11) football (38 boys and 12 girls total 50) Gymnastics (34 boys and 34 girls total 68) hockey (22 boys and 26 girls total 48) handball (23 boys and 13 girls total 36) judo (37 boys and 28 girls total 65) kho-kho (35 boys) lawn tennis (5 boys) shooting (9 boys and 5 girls (total 14) softball (21 girls) volleyball (40 boys) weightlifting (20 boys and 35 girls total 55) and wrestling (27 boys). The selected players would be provided daily diet/refreshment money as per the residential and day scholar schemes of the department in addition to the sports kit and free coaching he said.

      Ludhiana: A man has been murdered over old enmity at Shimlapuri. The deceased has been identified as Amrik Singh (54) who was into house construction business. The suspect has been identified as Rinku a meat seller. As per the police both had been nursing old enmity and today they came face to face at Shimlapuri where suspect attacked victim with a sharp weapon and killed him on the spot. Rinku had then threatened deceased of dire consequences.

      The Mayor said ever since the contract of A2Z Company which was earlier involved in the solid waste management of the city was terminated all senior MC officials had been in the field and looking after the solid waste management so that people did not suffer. The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) too at various occasions had passed strictures against A2Z for not complying with the solid waste management rules of 2016. He said that the bank guarantee of A2Z Company would also be forfeited by the MC. He said fresh tenders for the solid waste management of Ludhiana would also be floated shortly and assured the residents that the new company would be hired in a transparent manner. Singhal said when the A2Z group had served termination notice of 45 days in December 2020 why required steps were not taken?

      In the U14 section Arshpreet Kaur was named the best athlete in the girls' group and Armandeep Singh was adjudged the best athlete among boys. In the U17 group Arman Gill and Gursewak Singh were declared the best athletes in the girls' and boys' sections respectively. A large number of students representing four houses Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Sahibzada Fateh Singh Sahibzada Ajit Singh and Sahibzada Jujhar Singh took part in different track and field events in the one-day meet. Dr Sehajpal Singh principal Guru Nanak Polytechnic College Ludhiana was the chief guest at the inaugural function. Principal of the school Harmeet Kaur Waraich administered oath to the participants to play in true sportsmanship.

      Ludhiana February 9Doctors have condemned an incident occurred on January 26 when medical teams who had gone to provide medical aid to people during the Tractor March were manhandled and some of the health workers were beaten by the police in Delhi. A press meet was held in this regard by members of the Indian Doctors for Peace and Development. He said unfortunately one of the medical teams was attacked and doctors were beaten up. Police personnel manhandled the doctors' team. “We demand that an FIR should be registered against the guilty” Dr Mitra said.

Complainant Tilakraj of Guru Nanak Nagar told the police that he along with his son Rishi Pruthi was heading home on their Swift car. When they reached the Rahon road a truck was being driven rashly. “My son stopped the car and asked the truck driver to drive slowly and responsibly. Investigation officer ASI Surinderpal Singh said a case under various sections of the IPC had been registered against the truck driver and his accomplices.

      Ludhiana: The police have booked the owner of Dabu Chicken an eatery at BRS Nagar for violating the orders issued by the Ludhiana Police Commissioner. According to the police the owner of the eatery was supplying meals to customers at 11:50 pm in violation of the norms. A case under Section 188 of the IPC has been registered against the accused at the Sarabha Nagar police station. TNSTwo-wheeler cash stolenLudhiana: The police have booked unidentified persons for stealing a two-wheeler and cash from a house at Bank Colony here. A case under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the Haibowal police station.

A 39-year-old male teacher from Govt High School Bhundari was among those who tested positive. The total positive cases in the district have reached 26063 while 1006 people have lost their lives so far. Twentynine patients (23 from Ludhiana district and six from other states/districts) tested positive in the last 24 hours. A total of 2321 samples of suspected patients were sent for testing today and their results were expected shortly.

Even though the field staff and supervisory officials of the MC claim that notices have been issued to builders for violations they fail to explain if the illegal construction activity was in their knowledge and notices had been issued how the construction work was allowed to continue? ATP (Zone-A) Mohan Singh said the MTP had visited the site on the directions of senior officials and further the owners of the building had already deposited the CLU charges. As for the approval of the building plan he said the owners had claimed that no major alteration in the structure was made and no floor area had been added. Total inaction against such illegal buildings and blatant violations was more due to active “connivance” of the employees and officials of the building branch rather than negligence or dereliction of duty.

Giving details Baranwal said Rajinder Singh had created and operated two bogus firms in his own name. He has until now withdrawn cash amounting to a whopping Rs 100-125 crore from the bank accounts of 32 firms operated by Happy Nagpal” he revealed. Sandeep Kumar himself had been operating five such fraudulent firms under the supervision of Gurbax Lal alias Happy Nagpal for which he used to receive Rs 60000 per month from Gurbax Lal alias Happy Nagpal. Apart from these five firms he like Rajinder Singh was also engaged in performing banking operations in respect of 32 firms controlled and operated by Happy Nagpal alias Gurbax Lal Nagpal added the Principal Commissioner.

The first case was registered by the Focal Point police for a property fraud against Paramjit Singh a resident of Sector 32 Chandigarh road. When the date of execution of the registration deed came the accused refused to transfer the plot in his name. Investigating officer ASI Shiv Kirpal Singh said a case of fraud under Section 420 IPC was registered against the accused. The SHO Model Town Rajan Pal said a case of fraud and criminal conspiracy was registered against the duo.
