      Ludhiana February 7A man posing as Income Tax (I-T) officer duped a Mullanpur Dakha-based jeweller of Rs 1.44 lakh as the former did not pay bills of gold ornaments he reportedly bought from him. The accused Santosh Yadav alias Mora Rajesh was said to be a native of Hyderabad. Complainant Rajinder Kumar of Dakha told the police that on February 5 a man came to his jewellery showroom. When the bill was handed over to the accused he claimed he was not carrying cash hence he would transfer the payment via online mode. The jeweller said he then rushed to the hotel and its staff said the accused had already left the hotel.

      Ludhiana February 7Thieves struck at the Improvement Trust market in Rishi Nagar and took away eight AC vents and a generator set. Shopkeepers came to know about the theft when one of them went to the rooftop on Saturday and found that the AC vents were missing. Sunil Vashishth a shopkeeper in the market said 11 AC vents were installed on rooftops of the Improvement Trust market opposite the BSNL Exchange of which eight vents were stolen between January 14-24. Thieves were also captured in CCTV cameras but due to fog the CCTV footage was not clear. Now the shopkeepers have submitted a complaint to the PAU police station and have sought action against the miscreants.

A popular face in Punjabi films and theatre he was also an international-level kabaddi commentator. He also worked in the theatre group of eminent theatre director Harpal Tiwana. He was cremated today at his native village Barri.

Manpreet's attempt (snatch 64-kg and clean jerk 78-kg total 142 kg) fetched her first position while Balwinder Kaur with a total lift of 80-kg finished as runners-up. Earlier Sukhwinder Singh Bindra chairman Punjab Youth Development Board inaugurated the championship in which a large number of participants are vying for top honours. He said that the state government was committed to encourage the youth towards sports and wished the participants good luck.       Ludhiana February 6The Sadar police station claimed to have busted a gang of notorious snatchers and arrested three of its members. Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal said a tip-off was received that the accused were members of a gang of snatchers and they had committed several mobile phone snatchings in the city. As per information the gang was on the way to sell snatched mobile phones to some persons on the Dhandra road. The police said the accused had committed over 12 mobile phone snatchings in the city in the recent past and now their police remand would be sought for further interrogation. The police said efforts would be made to hand over the recovered mobile phones and those sold by the accused to their owners.

      Ludhiana: Students of MCom Semester II of Kamla Lohtia SD College Ludhiana achieved new heights of success in the results declared by Panjab University Chandigarh in February 2021. Payal Gupta of M.Com I (Semester II) secured 89.14 per cent marks. Another student Hardeep Singh secured 87.07 per cent marks and Kajal Arora got 83.86 per cent marks. Jyoti secured 88.5 per cent marks Kartik Sharma obtained 85.64 per cent marks and Kanika secured 84.42 per cent.       Ludhiana February 5A 37-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a Germany-based NRI after developing friendship with her. The accused has been identified as Paramjit Singh a native of Koom Kalan. To earn a livelihood she started a job at a hotel in Doraha as an assistant manager the woman alleged. “When the accused used to visit his native place Koom Kalan from Germany he used to stay at the hotel. She said the accused used to call her at his house for help in household work and she had visited his house on several occasions.

Dr Kuldeep Singh highlighted the importance of scientific agriculture and urged the farmers to adopt different subsidiary occupations to augment their income. He urged the farmers to adopt Integrated Nutritional Garden Model in which three kanal area is dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables and pulses for domestic requirement. Dr Kamalpreet Kaur Extension Scientist (Extension Education) stressed upon the need for farmer-scientist linkages and farm literature for profitable agriculture. Dr Jaswinder Singh Brar Block Officer also shared his views on the occasion.
