      Kuldip BhatiaLudhiana February 5The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has commenced the sale of a prime site in front of the Mini-Secretariat here and 19 other commercial sites through e-auction. Possession of the sites will be handed over to successful bidders on the payment of 25 per cent — 10 per cent after the closure of the bid and another 15 per cent within 30 days of allotment. Allottees would be required to deposit the balance payment in instalments at an interest rate of 9.5 per cent per annum. For participating in the e-auction intending bidders will be required to sign up on the auction portal and obtain user ID and password. The bidders have to deposit the refundable/adjustable eligibility fee through internet banking debit card credit card RTGS or NEFT.

A total of 608598 samples have been taken out of which the reports of 607494 samples have been received. Now the total number of patients related to Ludhiana is 25974 while 3956 patients belong to other districts/states. Today three patients lost their lives in the district. Now the total number of persons who have lost their lives include 1004 from Ludhiana and 480 from other districts.

      Ludhiana February 5The Punjab Sports Department will organise selection trials in 18 sports disciplines to register players (boys and girls U-14 16 and 19) with the school sports wings in Ludhiana district on February 11 and 12. Trials for archery will be held at GHG Khalsa College Gurusar Sadhar and for hockey handball and cycling at Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana on February 11 and 12. Trials for as many as 12 disciplines including athletics basketball badminton judo gymnastics kho-kho lawn tennis softball shooting volleyball wrestling and football will be held at Guru Nanak Stadium Ludhiana. Players born on or after January 1 2003 can attend trials in the U-19 group. Interested players have been asked to report at their respective venues at 8 am on February 11.

      Ludhiana: Students of MCom Semester II of Kamla Lohtia SD College Ludhiana achieved new heights of success in the results declared by Panjab University Chandigarh in February 2021. Payal Gupta of M.Com I (Semester II) secured 89.14 per cent marks. Another student Hardeep Singh secured 87.07 per cent marks and Kajal Arora got 83.86 per cent marks. Jyoti secured 88.5 per cent marks Kartik Sharma obtained 85.64 per cent marks and Kanika secured 84.42 per cent. Once the proposal is implemented exemption on water supply and sewer charges given to residential properties up to 125 sq yards will be revoked. The monthly water and sewer tariff will be fixed for up to 50 sq yards (multi-storeyed) and 50 to 125 sq yards residential properties. Besides new water and sewer tariff will also be fixed for properties above 125 sq yards as per the proposal. In November 2020 the Municipal Corporation House had approved a proposal regarding new water and sewer tariff and hike in tariff.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana February 4Eight villages of Ludhiana district will soon have reverse osmosis (RO) system. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has funded this Rs 88-lakh project to provide clean and safe potable water to the rural populace in the district. He said the main aim of the project was to ensure that the residents of these villages get clean and safe potable water. He said under the “Har Ghar Pani Har Ghar Safai” mission the residents of these eight villages in the district would have water purifier reverse osmosis (RO) plants as currently they were not having access to safe drinking water due to heavy metal contamination in the groundwater. Hardyal Singh and Surinder Singh of Begowal village said that due to the presence of high TDSs in groundwater they had no access to clean and safe potable water.

      Ludhiana February 3Led by district president of the party Ranjit Singh Dhillon Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) activists today held a protest at Clock Tower Chowk here and later burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. Addressing the party workers Dhillon said the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal by goons of the Congress MLA from Jalalabad and his son had exposed the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. He said at the behest of its political masters the police had not remained a law enforcement agency but had turned into a stooge of the ruling dispensation. The district president of the party and other speakers demanded immediate arrest of all culprits behind the attack including prime accused Congress MLA Raminder Amla and his son. Group leader of SAD councillors Harbhajan Singh Dang Vijay Danav Surinder Kaur Dyal Sarbjit Singh Laddi Mandeep Kaur Sandhu Poonam Arora and Manpreet Bunty were among those others present.

      Ludhiana February 3The rural police have registered a case against a youth who allegedly sexually exploited a minor girl. Later to prevent police action he got married with the girl. After conducting a probe the police registered a case under the Child Marriage Act and the POCSO Act against Sahil of Nawi Abadi Akalgarh. SI Rupinder Kaur said the girl was staying at the house of her relative Ruby in Akalgarh. The police said since she was a minor her marriage could not be considered as legal.

      Ludhiana February 3The Skill Development Centre Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a two-day training course on “Cultivation of aromatic medicinal and spice crops” here today. Dr TS Riar Associate Director (Skill Development) said farmers and farm women can get better returns from the cultivation of aromatic medicinal and spice crops in comparison to other crops. Dr Rupinder Kaur Course Coordinator highlighted the importance of the training course. Dr SS Walia agronomy expert advised trainees to adopt agronomic practices for the successful cultivation of aromatic medicinal and spice crops. Dr Khushdeep Dharni a PAU expert gave tips for the marketing of aromatic and medicinal crops.

      Ludhiana: As part of the ongoing National Road Safety Month the city traffic police on Wednesday conducted an awareness programme for auto-rickshaw drivers. In the event they were made aware about the traffic rules and road safety guidelines. The auto-rickshaw drivers in a large number took part in the event and assured the police that they would follow all road safety guidelines. The ACP said the city had hundreds of auto-rickshaws and if their drivers follow the traffic rules roads would be safe for all. Notably the Ludhiana police have been organising traffic awareness activities in the city daily in which a cross section of people are being invited for discussion and interaction.

The Koom Kalan police have registered a case against the accused Pawandeep Singh of Bilga village Bunty Gujjar of Sahnewal and 15 unidentified persons. The accused stopped him in the village and attacked him with sharp weapons and baseball bats. After attacking him they snatched Rs 20000 and keys of the car from him he said. The victim said the accused attacked him as he had arguments with them over some issue during a marriage function on January 31 in Amloh during which two of the identified accused had threatened him.

      Kuldip BhatiaLudhiana February 3Residents of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (E Block) a colony developed and maintained by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) on Pakhowal Road here are up in arms against the indiscriminate cutting and felling of trees in the name of pruning. They feel that cutting and felling of full-grown and shady trees in this manner was tantamount to depriving them of 'green cover' that is essential for both human beings and the environment. “However in its own colony trees are being cut down mercilessly and the LIT officials are keeping their eyes closed” they said. LIT officials said there was nothing like 'mass killing; of trees or felling of healthy trees in the colony where only pruning of over-grown trees was being undertaken. “The staff deployed for the purpose has been directed to be more careful in this regard” said an official.
