      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana January 29Fortysix persons have tested positive for Covid while an elderly person lost his life to the virus today. Total confirmed cases from Ludhiana have now reached 25721 while 997 persons have lost their life due to the virus in the district. The person who lost his life today was a 76-year-old man from Dhandra village who was also suffering from a coronary artery disease and admitted to GTB Hospital. Of the total confirmed cases of 25721 the highest number belong to Ludhiana city. Till now 22852 persons have tested positive from the city 848 from Jagraon 743 from Khanna 518 from Raikot 420 from Samrala and 340 from Payal.
    • Two minor girls missing in Ludhiana | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana January 29Two minor girls have been reported missing from different parts of the city and police have booked one person each in both the cases being suspects behind disappearance of the girls. One Uday Kant Thakur a resident of Vijay Nagar has lodged report with police that his 14-year-old daughter had gone to a boutique in the colony – where she was employed on January 22 but did not come back after that. A case has been registered. Another girl (16) was reported missing since the morning of January 21 from her home by her father Nannu Kumar a resident of Daba village. Case under sections 363/366 IPC were lodged.

      Ludhiana February 2The 37th edition of the Ludhiana District Weightlifting Championship for Men and Women will be held at the Ludhiana Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Club Rakh Bagh near Guru Nanak Stadium here on February 6 and 7. Parvesh Chander Sharma general secretary District Weightlifting Association said competition in women's section would be held on the opening day while for men's section on the next day.

      Ludhiana: A team of the anti-narcotics cell of the police has arrested a drug peddler Balwinderpal Singh a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar and recovered 25 gm of heroin from him. The police said the accused was intercepted during a checking at the Isher Nagar T-point on Monday. During investigation he told the police that he already had two cases under the NDPS Act registered against him at two police stations. Additional DCP -1 Pragya Jain said the Daresi police nabbed the accused and his judicial remand was taken from court.

    • PSPCL all set to install smart energy meters on consumers premises | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Touted as state-of-the art equipment the smart meters would help curtail power theft meter tempering and inflated bills claim PSPCL officials. Process of testing single phase smart meters (for load of less than 7 kW and DT (distribution transformer) smart meters was in progress and would take some more time to be finalized Nagi added. Officials claimed that smart meters would cut down human intervention in metering billing and collection process to the minimum level and also help in reducing theft by identifying loss-making pockets. Further the billing data provided by smart meters would be accessible for consumers on a mobile phone app which could be linked to the PSPCL control centre too. As of now it is not clear whether the cost of smart meters (around Rs 6000) would be borne by the PSPCL or the consumer.

      Ludhiana February 1The Department of Livestock Production Management Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) Ludhiana organised two training programmes for farmers on “Scientific goat farming as a source of income for rural farmers” and “Rural upliftment through scientific poultry farming”. The trainings were conducted and co-ordinated by Dr Daljeet Kaur Dr Mandeep Singla Dr Yashpal Singh and Dr Subhash Chandra. The trainings were conducted under the aegis of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) programme operational in the GADVASU with a duration of four days (two days under each training). Six women also participated in programme on goat farming. The trainees were apprised on various aspects of goat farming under stall-fed conditions.

      Ludhiana February 1Father son duo fired at a man over minor issue at Kot Mangal Singh yesterday. Later in the evening the suspects brought some unknown persons outside complainant's house to intimidate him. When area people gathered in large numbers unknown persons fled from the spot. Later when complainant's father along with the area people went to talk to Sanjiv about unknown persons he and his son started arguing and hurled bricks at him. Sandeep then brought his pistol and fired bullets at complainant's father but fortunately no one suffered bullet injuries.

      Ludhiana February 1Two persons have been killed in separate hit-and-run cases. In the first accident on the national highway in Sahnewal a 44-year-old man identified as Harbhajan Singh a resident of Mohd Tahir village in Ludhiana was killed. The moment he came on the Delhi road his scooter was hit by some unknown rashly driven vehicle. His father suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors the complainant added. He suffered minor injuries while his father suffered serious head injuries in the accident.
