      Ludhiana January 31The Guru Nanak Club wrapped up two titles romping home victorious in the girls U-17 as well as in the U-19 sections in the three-day Ludhiana District Basketball Championship which concluded at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Sunday. In the boys U-17 category Ludhiana Cagers emerged winners while in the U-19 group Gymkhana Club came out triumphant. Teja Singh Dhaliwal senior vice president Basketball Federation of India Gurjeet Ramana SP (retd) JP Singh president DBA Ludhiana Sumesh Chadha vice president DBA Vijay Chopra and Avnish Agarwal were among others present on this occasion. Speaking on the occasion Teja Singh Dhaliwal said that emerging players from these championships will go on to star for India in international arenas in future. The promising basketball stars from the city Navshan Singh Manjot Singh and Manmeet Kaur besides senior basketball coach Rajinder Singh and coaches Davinder Singh Dhindsa Ravinder Gill and Saloni were honoured by the organising association.

    • Building inspector gets show cause notices | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana January 30The MC Commissioner has issued a show-cause notice to a building inspector for not providing records regarding the nine colonies in areas under the Zone A of the Municipal Corporation. The building inspector Daleep Kumar Soni has been asked to file a reply otherwise disciplinary action will be taken against him. In the notice the Commissioner has stated that according to the report prepared by the building branch clerk and head draftsman concerned the records of these colonies were not available. The notice further stated that the building inspector had not submitted records to these officials. Meanwhile the MC Commissioner has also issued another show-cause notice to the building inspector for allegedly not taking action against an illegal construction at Bal Singh Nagar.

      Ludhiana: The police claimed to have arrested a man with 40 gm of heroin. SI Jaspal Singh said the accused was waiting for his customers when he was caught by the police near Subhani Building. He said 40 gm of heroin was seized from the accused Aadil Ahmed of Kashmir. In another incident the police arrested a drug peddler Shubham a resident of GK County near Ramgarh and have recovered 5.6 kg of heroin from him. In her complaint filed with the police she said: “The accused woman told me that the man who was with her was an astrologer. This will end the ordeal of the visitors to the track who used to suffer a lot due to the lack of proper parking space leading to traffic congestion on the road outside. He said the parking lot would be completed soon with ample space. MGM Fly High Club beat Doraha Public School 45-36; DGSG School got the better of Gymkhana Club 51-37; Ludhiana Cagers Club outperformed Police Lines Club 28-14 and DGSG School outpaced Joy Brothers Academy 30-20. In the U-19 group BIS Club outclassed Joy Brothers Academy 49-39 whereas in the girls' U-17 category BIS Club outplayed Khalsa Club 23-15; Guru Nanak Club outnumbered Khalsa Club 47-35. In the boys' U-17 category Gymkhana Club overpowered Joy Brothers Academy and whereas in the girls' U-17 section Guru Nanak Club outperformed BIS Club.

    • Panel tells GLADA to act against illegal colonies | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana January 28The District Level Environment Committee has given directions to GLADA to take action against the proponents of the illegal colonies who have joined the sewerage connection with the MC sewer line particularly on Pakhowal Road Ludhiana thereby increasing the pollution load of the STPs of the city which are already operating short on capacity. The committee has also directed the civic body to ensure the regular and efficient operation of the sewage treatment plants installed in the city and also ensure that the new STPs are set up and the existing STPs are upgraded/rehabilitated as per the timelines prescribed in the comprehensive plan. A meeting of District Level Environment Committee was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Virender Sharma with all stakeholder departments to review the progress for the implementation of various action plans to control pollution in the district on Thursday. Meanwhile the Punjab Pollution Control Board was directed to ensure that the construction work of the ongoing dyeing CETPs of the capacity 50 MLD and 40 MLD for Tajpur Road and Focal Point cluster respectively should be completed at the earliest. The chairman of the committee also directed the MCL officials to ensure that the municipal solid waste was handled properly in an environmentally sound manner and full treatment of the solid waste by A to Z management facility on Tajpur Road.

      Ludhiana January 29The Guru Nanak Club in the girls section and Gymkhana Club in the boys section recorded authentic victories on the opening day of the Ludhiana District Basketball Championship for Boys and Girls U-17 and 19 being held at Guru Nanak Stadium here today. In the boys' U-17 category Gymkhana Club overpowered Joy Brothers Academy 52-40 whereas in the girls' section Guru Nanak Club outperformed BIS Club 35-20. In other matches in the boys U-17 group DGSG Public School outplayed Police Lines Club 15-6 and Doraha Public School outnumbered DAV Hawks 56-31 while in the girl's U-17 section DAV International Public School faced a stiff challenge from DAV Hawks before coming out triumphant by a narrow margin of two points (38-36). A poster with the message 'Say no to Drugs–Yes to Sports' was also released on this occasion. Representatives of 15 district associations attended the meeting during which it was resolved to promote the game of volleyball across the state.
