- Ludhiana Gangrape Case: Prime Accused Gets Bail From the High Court
In the Issewal gangrape case in Ludhiana, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted bail to the key accused. In relation to the alleged gangrape of a 21-year-old woman, the defendant, Jagroop Singh, was arrested. On February 9th last year, near Issewal village, about 15 km from Ludhiana, she was allegedly raped by ten men.Singh got bail on December 29, according to a study in Amar Ujala, despite his DNA samples showing the match of semen on the victim's clothes. The proof was also recovered by the police from the gang members' cell phones. They are allegedly serial criminals who assaulted women and took their pictures in secrecy to blackmail them.Since the accused got bail, the victim and her friend have previously reported that they were being harassed. The woman further alleged that her house had been visited by the family of the main defendant to intimidate her. She later lodged a complaint with the police. Furthermore, SSP Charanjeet Singh (Rural) said they would approach the Supreme Court to revoke the bail for the main defendant.

While the political powers in many states suggest measures and introduce policies to curb the use of crackers during the upcoming festive seasons to control the pollution crisis, the rising sale of firecrackers seem to be against these restrictions as the market sees an upsurge in cracker sales. People across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Rajasthan have reached out to Ludhiana's wholesale firecracker market amidst a ban on firecrackers in many states. The ban was imposed in the wake of fears of a possibility of the second wave of COVID19 pandemic due to the deteriorating condition of pollution in the country.

Punjab Khalistan Flag Hoisting: Khalistan flag hoisting is being reported from the land of five rivers. The National Investigative Agency is conducting multiple raids at 6 locations across Punjab in Ferozepur, Ludhiana and Moga in connection with the Khalistani Flag hoisting by cadre of "Seek for Justice" at Moga. This incident happened at several locations including Ferozepur, Ludhiana and Moga.Before the Independence Day on 14th August a Khalistani Flag was hoisted in Moga after which multiple such incidences were reported. In Phagwada, some posters with slogans of Khalistan Zindabad had come up.
