      Ludhiana January 25Following the directions of the National Green Tribunal a committee which has been formed by the DC Ludhiana inspected the Bhai Chattar Singh Park site on Monday. Earlier an advocate Gurinderpreet Singh had moved the NGT against the MC's plan about setting up of a garbage dump inside Bhai Chatar Singh Park and in its vicinity. Notably at present garbage is dumped under the flyover alongside the Scooter Market opposite Bhai Chatar Singh Park but the market shopkeepers are suffering a lot due to the dump. A few years ago the MC had set up a structure on the park land for shifting of the scooter market dump. Gurinderpreet Singh a lawyer who lives near the park said “There should be no garbage dump at Bhai Chatar Singh Park and in its immediate vicinity.
    • Man posing as reader of judge booked for fraud | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana January 25The Sarabha Nagar police have booked one Paramjit Singh a resident of Akkuwal village near Sidhwan Bet in Jagraon tehsil for cheating a person by impersonating as reader of a judge and extorting money on the promise of getting government job in sports quota. He neither got his son any government job nor did he return the money. The accused has been booked under section 420 of the Indian Penal Codeand further investigation was in progress. He said the accused person told him to wait outside by his scooter while he would deposit the cash without having to stand in a queue. However he later found that scooter belonged to somebody else and the accused disappeared with his money.

A patient visiting the hospital today said that it was really a very sad state of affairs at the Civil Hospital that sewerage water was stagnant just opposite the labour room. “The hospital should be very clean ideally but water has been stagnant here from many days which can lead to diseases. A relative of a patient who was admitted to the hospital said it was really pathetic to see dirty stagnant water the canteen. “I came to see my relative admitted in the hospital and thought I will take some refreshments before boarding a bus to my village.

      Ludhiana January 21Three persons lost their lives to Covid while 35 tested positive for the virus in the district today. The total number of positive cases in the district has gone up to 580614 while 988 persons have lost their lives so far. There are 290 active cases in the district while 45 persons were home quarantined today. Today one healthcare worker also tested positive while the results of 1725 reports were pending. We can certainly overcome the spread of this disease if the general public follows all the necessary precautions” said the Civil Surgeon.

      Ludhiana January 23In an illegal lottery case in which operators at Janakpuri had cornered a police party on Thursday the Ludhiana police have identified six persons. Sources said on the first day when the FIR was registered the police had not added names of any lottery operators or persons who had cornered the police party. Last night the police secretly added the names of six persons in the FIR. The police have however not officially revealed the names of persons. Sources said some politicians had been supporting illegal lottery operators due to which the accused were not being arrested by the police.
    • Contractor directed to reconstruct road | LUDHIANA NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana January 23The Municipal Corporation has given directions to reconstruct a stretch of Circular Road from where samples had failed the quality tests. Earlier samples that were collected from Circular Road near Daresi Ground had failed the quality tests last year. An official of MC said after the negative results the contractor was asked to reconstruct the portion of the road but the work was unsatisfactory. He further said “We have directed the contractor to reconstruct the road portion after removing the old layer. “If the road samples fail the quality tests the contractor concerned should be blacklisted.

      The march started from Flower Chowk had passed through various points including Phullanwal village intersection and then near Jain Mandir on Dhandran Road. Dr Amandeep Singh Bains one of the organisers of the march and a member of 'Tractor to Twitter' team said “Today we organised Kisan Shaheed March to pay tributes to the martyr farmers. However they said they will make an appeal to the government to officially name the road as 'Kisan Shaheed Road'. Dr Amandeep Singh Bains said “With consent of present citizens of Ludhiana we named the 200-feet road as Kisan Shaheed Road. The notices that were sent by NIA to the supporters of Kisan Andolan should be revoked.”

After covering a distance of about 15-km they returned to the office. The rally was led by Suresh Goyal president AAP Ludhiana city secretary Sharanpal Singh Makkar office in-charge Master Hari Singh media in-charge Dupinder Singh and others. The residents have placed bricks to pass through the road stretch where stinking water is getting accumulated. We have made complaints to the civic body but the problem has not been resolved till date.       Ludhiana January 20A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an auto-rickshaw driver in Jamalpur. Later when he inquired from some local residents he got to know that the accused forcibly took her in his auto-rickshaw. He parked the vehicle at an isolated place in Giaspura where he raped her during the night. When he reached the place shop owner's brother-in-law Paul John removed the pant of his son and started sodomising him. The complainant said his son told family members about the incident after reaching home.

      Ludhiana January 19A total of 340 healthcare workers were vaccinated on the third day of the drive against Covid today. Five vaccination sites have been set up in the district which include three in the city at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and Christian Medical College and Hospital Fortis Hospital and two in the periphery at Civil Hospital Samrala and Civil Hospital Jagraon. The programme introduced by the Government of India was started with proper precautions and arrangements in Fortis Hospital here today. Dr Vinay Singhal (additional director and HoD critical care) Dr JP Sharma (head anaesthesia) AP Singh (unit head administration) and nursing staff of Fortis Hospital were among those vaccinated today. Jabs were also given to the secretary of the DMCH Managing Society Prem Kumar Gupta along with Sunila Gupta and Arvind Malhotra.
