    • Scholarship scheme announced | LUDHIANA NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana: Desh Bhagat University under Mata Jarnail Kaur Scholarship Scheme announced scholarship worth Rs17 Crore for deserving students on the occasion of Makar Sakranti. The announcement was done by Dr Zora Singh Chancellor Dr Sandeep Singh president and Shivangi Verma Deputy Manager Admissions. Dr Zora Singh Chancellor and Dr Tejinder Kaur pro-chancellor said last year scholarship worth Rs 11 crore was offered to the students under Mata Jarnail Scholarship and this year the funds have been increased to Rs 17 crore in view of the pandemic. The key note speaker and chief guest was Dr Jatinder Grover Dean Faculty of Education Panjab University Chandigarh. Dr Naginder Kaur Principal welcomed the key note speaker resource person and all the students.

      Ludhiana: The Dugri police cracked a house theft case reported in Nirmal Nagar on the night of January 10. The police recovered 82 gm of gold ornaments from the accused and further questioning is on to recover the remaining gold and cash.       Ludhiana January 14The Police Division 2 conducted a major raid against gambling and caught 11 persons red-handed while gambling near HDFC Bank PUDA ground yesterday. The accused have been identified as Harsimran Singh Shivam Bansal of Phase 2 Dugri Sanjiv Kumar of Mehmoodpura Sunil Kumar Mani Kumar of Qila Mohalla Krishan Lal of Harbanspura Shyam of Daresi Vishal of Madhopuri Gurjot Singh of Dhoka Mohalla Rakesh Kumar of Qila Mohalla and Mukesh Kumar of Janakpuri. ASI Inder Singh said a tip-off was received that some persons were gambling on the PUDA ground. accordingly the police party conducted a raid and nabbed them. A case under Sections 13A and 3/67 of the Gambling Act has been registered.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana January 13The Ludhiana police celebrated Lohri with orphans and other underprivileged persons at slum areas in the industrial hub. Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal Joint Commissioner of Police J Elanchezhian and all senior and junior police officials were part of the event. Agrawal said the police distributed blankets woollen caps biscuits noodles and sweets among people. The CP said the programme was organised at 29 places in the city in which all police personnel participated and distributed the items among the poor. ACP (Crime) Surinder Mohan who was also present said the police would continue such initiatives in future as well.

Labh Singh a farmer from from Ludhiana's Sirthala drank poison at the protest site and was later admitted to the emergency ward of Sonepat's Frank Institute of Medical Sciences. His condition is critical sources say. There have been four suicides---a 65-year-old Sikh preacher from Karnal Sant Baba Ram Singh who shot himself near Kundli; a 63-year-old lawyer from Punjab's Fazilka district Amarjit Singh Rai who drank pesticide at another protest site Tikri; Kashmir Singh Dass a Uttar Pradesh farmer in his 70s who hanged himself at Ghazipur; Amrinder Singh who took poison at the protests at Singhu border---and one attempt---Niranjan Singh a farmer from Tarn Taran district who tried to himself by taking pest control tablets at the Singhu border--- since the protest began.

The total positive cases have now reached 25117 while there have been 973 fatalities in the district since the Covid spread. There were 294 active cases in the district while 53 were home quarantined today. Two patients were on ventilator support and one belonged to Ludhiana district and one hails from outside Ludhiana. The total number of patients related to Ludhiana is 25117 while 3774 patients belong to other districts/states.

The facility will be built over 20000 sq m area with a 50-room 3 to 4-star hotel by the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) a senior official told The Tribune here on Wednesday. As per the project report the indoor halls will have high-floor loads minimal columns flexible floor configurations plug and play at each booth. The outdoor exhibition area to be spread over 5000 sq m will support very high floor loads and underground cabling. “A large commercial and retail development will support the industry exhibitions and commercial activities in East Ludhiana” the official added.

Expressing their protest against the BJP-led Central Government the members blamed that the Centre was responsible for deaths of those farmers who died during the farmers' protest in Delhi. Senior members Paramjit Singh Khalsa Major Singh Khalsa and Daler Singh along with other members gathered in the city and burnt the copies of the farm laws to mark their protest. “The farm laws are not only anti-farmers but also against people hence these should be repealed. Meanwhile members of the BKU Ekta (Ugrahan) burnt copies of the farm laws near MBD Mall on Ferozepur Road here.
    • Man held for bid to kidnap girl | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana: A man attempted to kidnap a five-year-old girl from an LIG flat here ON Wednesday evening. However before the man could leave the area he was cornered by the area residents and the girl was recovered. At 5 pm an unknown man barged into the house and snatched the girl from the lap of her mother. She then raised an alarm following which the area people gathered there and cornered the kidnapper and rescued the girl said the father of the girl. He said more than 50 per cent of the work had been completed and the remaining work was going on in full swing.

    • Man dies in CO2 cylinder blast | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana: A 32-year-old man died after a carbon dioxide cylinder exposed at the Focal Point Phase 6 here on Tuesday afternoon. As per information Gurdeep along with Varinder a driver of Tata 207 vehicle had gone to collect empty cylinders from a factory in Focal Point. The vehicle was already carrying filled cylinders of carbon dioxide. Before loading the empty cylinders in the vehicle Gurdeep started settling the filled cylinders to make space for the empty ones during which a loaded cylinder exploded. The Focal Point police said the statement of the deceased's family is yet to be taken and further action will be taken after recording the statement.

      Though parents of the deceased Harpreet Kaur (17) of Isher Nagar Ludhiana started searching for her after she failed to reach home on Monday afternoon her body hanging with a ceiling fan was spotted by the school authorities this morning. Investigating Officer Harnek Singh said Parminder Singh of Isher Singh Nagar Ludhiana had informed the police at 10.30 pm on Monday that his daughter had gone missing after attending classes at her school on Monday. Intensive search undertaken jointly by the parents of the deceased and the police proved futile till 10.30 am on Tuesday when the school authorities informed the police about the recovery of the body from the school biology laboratory. Parminder told the investigating team that his daughter had been under depression for a long time and had ended her life due to the same. As her family did not want action against anybody no criminal case was registered said Harnek.
