The total positive cases in the district reached 24800 while 967 persons have lost their lives in the district so far. Three patients were on ventilator support out of whom two belonged to Ludhiana district and one was from another district. A health care worker also tested positive while the tracing of six was in progress. He said a total of 36 patients (27 new patients from Ludhiana district and nine from other states/districts) had tested positive in the last 24 hours.

RK Yadav of Yadav Ahir Mahasabha said visitors and shopkeepers have been suffering for a long time due to overflowing sewers. “The MC authorities should ensure timely redressal of the problem. Notably the MC had earlier announced to pay focus on cleaning of sewer lines with machines under the Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge. But the MC is yet to ensure cleaning of sewer lines at the Sherpur market road and other areas.

This activity was aimed at testing the laid out mechanisms for Covid vaccination roll-out in the state the DC added. “The dry run will conduct end-to-end testing of Covid vaccination process. Pertinently Punjab was among the four states along with Andhra Pradesh Assam and Gujarat identified by the Centre for undertaking the dry run of the Covid vaccine in the country. The immunisation partners – the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) – would support the dry run activity.

In the first incident the Jodhewal police nabbed a man and recovered two gold chains from him. The suspect has been identified as Hardaman Singh of Block J Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar. Complainant Vinay Kumar of Kishore Nagar said on December 12 he was heading to his house and when he reached the Tajpur road four bike-borne persons stopped him on the road and attacked him. Investigating officer in the case ASI Resham Singh said later two suspects were identified and arrested in the case.

      Ludhiana December 25Facing mental torture for failing to pay Rs 20000 debt a 38-year-old fruit seller allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at his residence in Chandni Chowk Salem Tabri today. The deceased has been identified as Ravinder Singh. The Salem Tabri police registered a case against fruit wholesellers Bikram Singh and Kushal Singh. Brother-in-law of the deceased Manjit Singh said Ravinder had a business of fruits in Fruit and Grain Market Bahadurke Road. The Salem Tabri SHO Gopal Krishan said raids were on to nab the suspects.

      Our CorrespondentLudhiana December 23In yet another step towards creating better urban infrastructure in the city work was taken in hand here today for the widening of the Sidhwan Canal bridge connecting Sarabha Nagar and Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar. Punjab Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu formally inaugurated the work for the widening of one of the two bridges on Sidhwan Canal that connected the two localities. The minister was accompanied by MC councillors Mamta Ashu Hari Singh Brar Amrit Varsha Rampal MC Commissioner-cum-CEO Ludhiana Smart City Ltd Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal. Ashu stated that in view of the ongoing construction of the Pakhowal Road Rail Under Bridge (RUB) and Rail Over Bridge (ROB) projects the Pakhowal road (from Sidhwan Canal bridge till Hero Bakery Chowk) had been closed to vehicular traffic. He made an appeal to the residents to take alternative routes both on Pakhowal Road and the Sidhwan Canal bridge (near the MC Zone D office) till the work on these projects was completed.

      Ludhiana December 24In a daring daylight attack on a liquor vend in the Gopal Nagar locality here at least 25 persons carrying sharp-edged weapons and a country-made pistol ransacked the vend fired shots broke liquor bottles and grievously injured an employee Sukhdev Singh at the vend. The critically injured Sukhdev was admitted to the CMC Hospital here where he was being treated. In a complaint lodged with the police Sukhdev Singh said the assailants allegedly involved in the smuggling of liquor had attacked the vend with the intent of killing him due to a grudge with the liquor contractor. The accused named in the FIR were Kuldeep Singh his son Bunty Mann residents of Mayapuri Lally a resident of Preet Nagar Sadhu a resident of Ram Nagar Gagan a resident of Marana Pratap Nagar Karan Kalia a resident of Neela Jhanda Gurudwara and Babbu Karan a resident of Mayapuri. SHO Tibba police station inspector Mohammed Jameel said the police were investigating the matter.

Taking note of the problem Sanjay Talwar MLA Ludhiana (East) along with Neeru Katyal Gupta Additional Deputy Commissioner Jagraon on Thursday held on-site discussions with the civil and police officials concerned at the Samrala chowk junction to solve the traffic issue here. During the meeting the officials discussed issues including land acquisition entry-exit to bypass road and widening of service lanes. MLA Sanjay Talwar asked the officials to see the feasibility to give direct access from Transport Nagar to bypass bridge so that heavy vehicles need not enter the city which leads to traffic jam. He also asked for a slipway road from Transport Nagar to link road connecting the city.

      Our CorrespondentLudhiana December 23A woman fell prey to Covid while 30 persons tested positive for it in the district today. With this the total number of positive patients in the district has gone up to 24486 and the number of fatalities has reached 953. Three deaths were reported from the virus with one from Ludhiana and one each from Hoshiarpur district and Jammu. He added that 3605 positive cases were brought for treatment here from other districts/states and the number of deaths from other places had reached 439. Till now 519264 samples (RTPCR Antigen Trunat) of suspected patients were sent for testing reports of 519264 were received and reports of 1932 samples was awaited.
