      Ludhiana December 16Sukhwinder Singh Bindra Chairperson Punjab Youth Development Board held a meeting with coaches of the district to discuss the distribution of sports kits among players and listen to their problems. The meeting was held at Guru Nanak Stadium. Bindra said the main objective of the meeting was to distribute sports kits to the deserving youth and encourage them to pursue sports and make the state proud. Bindra said he has been visiting all districts to know the grassroots-level problems being faced by the youth.     • Building owners pay tax post action | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana: The MC sealed four buildings in the Zone B areas on Monday for not depositing property tax. MC superintendent (property tax) Vivek Verma said the building owners later deposited the pending property tax and then these buildings were unsealed. Teams of the MC's Zone B recovered around Rs 5.25 lakh and the Zone C team recovered around Rs 6.25 lakh as property tax from the defaulters. He said the miscreants had come from the Kohara side and snatched the cell phone from him after threatening him with a 'daat' (sword). On seeing the police the suspect escaped leaving the tractor-trailer on the spot which was impounded by the police.

      Ludhiana December 14The Women Cell of the city police have booked five persons in four cases of marital disputes. In all the cases the women had lodged complaints against their husbands and in-laws for causing mental and physical harassment and demanding dowry. Sagar Nagar and his aunt (father's sister) Rachna residents of Ashok Nagar in Salem Tabri were booked by the police under Sections 406 and 498-A of the IPC on the complaint of Samit Kaur a resident of Rahon Road. In another incident the police have registered a case under Sections 406 and 498-A of the IPC against Vishal Khanna a resident of Lal Dwara Yamuna Nagar (Haryana) on the complaint of his wife Priyanka a resident of Silver Kunj Colony here who alleged that she was got married in October 2009. In two other cases the police have booked Mandeep Singh of J-Block Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar and Kunal Dev Malhotra a resident of JJ Enclave in Dugri Phase III on the complaints of harassment for dowry by their wives Savita and Gurdeep Kaur respectively.

      Ludhiana December 13Two rape cases have been reported in city areas. In the first case a 14-year-old girl was raped in the city at Pritam Colony in Sahnewal. The victim's mother said about eight months ago she had fallen ill and was admitted to hospital. The woman said a few months after she returned home from hospital one day her daughter felt pain in her stomach. The complainant said the accused was her tenant and when her husband had died she developed friendship with him.

The police booked Paramjit Singh of Tilak Nagar Delhi Temjennaro of Tirupura Vungzakim of Nagaland and Lunu Aier of Nagaland for running this racket. As per the police one Simranjot Kaur and Harvinder Kaur of Ludhiana had started a boutique. The police said the accused were running a gang and lured people on the pretext of selling modern dresses. The accused used to deliver the first order to gain confidence of clients but never delivered the second order after taking money.
    • Anti Sikh riots SIT records statements of victims family | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Kuldip BhatiaLudhiana December 10In a significant development towards dispensation of justice to victims of anti-Sikh riots of 1984 a three-member special investigation team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh Police from Kanpur today visited the city and recorded the statements of family members and dependents of riot-victims in Kanpur who had later migrated to Ludhiana and other places in Punjab. Inspector SP Singh along with assistant sub-inspectors Sunil Kumar and Puneet Kumar recorded the statements of Tejinder Kaur and Harcharan Singh Channi who had lost their husband and brother respectively in the riots in Kanpur. The UP Police SIT team also met Surjit Singh president of 1984 Sikh Katle-Aam Welfare Society and women wing president of the body Bibi Gurdeep Kaur to have information about whereabouts or contact addresses of other victims of riots in Kanpur who might have settled in places other than Ludhiana. Surjit Singh told the visiting SIT team that information provided by some victims and their kin (of riots in Kanpur) had indicated towards involvement of the then Congress leaders including Anil Chandhel Santosh Mishra and Virender Singh Kushwaha. He said the UP government had formed the SIT to hold a probe in 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Kanpur on the directions of the Apex Court and those who had suffered at the hands of violent mob now held hopes that at last justice would be dispensed to them even though after a delay of 35 years.

Members of the Indian Dental Association submitted a memorandum against Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma. They along with other office bearers of the body were elected unopposed. The elections to the PBA were scheduled to be held here at Ludhiana on December 13. Amarjit Singh Bains Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ludhiana was appointed election officer for these elections while Sunil Kumar Deputy Director Sports Punjab was the observer.       Tribune News ServiceLudhiana December 10Three persons lost their life to Covid while 62 persons tested positive for it in Ludhiana district today taking the death toll in the district to 926. Out of the total people who tested positive 33 were referred from flu corners five each were contacts of positive persons and were referred from OPDs. Seven under-trials also tested positive while the tracing of 10 was under progress. He said there would be 805 session sites where vaccines would be administered to the beneficiaries in the district. He said 442 ANMs in the district would administer the vaccine to the beneficiaries and 43 supervisors had been deputed to monitor the vaccination process.

      Our CorrespondentLudhiana December 7Three minor girls have been reported missing from different parts of the city. The police have registered cases under relevant sections of the IPC but none of the girls have so far been recovered. A 14-year-old girl was reported missing by Satish Kumar of New Sunder Nagar in Mundian Kalan since December 5. He told the police that he suspected the girl had been abducted by someone. Investigating officer in the case Kamaljit Singh from the Meharban police station said police teams were searching for the suspect and the victim.
