      Ludhiana December 8A large number of employees including teaching and non-teaching staff members have come in support of Bandh bandh called by farmer organisations against farm laws. A massive rally was organised in front of the Thapar Hall in which representatives of different unions also participated. Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh former vice-chancellor of PAU Dr NS Malhi Dr SS Gill Dr JS Kular all former Directors of Extension Education Dr Ramesh Kumar former Head of the Department of Floriculture and Landscaping Naresh Gaur general secretary State Bank of India addressed the rally.

      Ludhiana: Stuti Garg (XII-Arts) and Siddharth Bhatia (X-B) made their way to the finals of the 8th Annual National Inter-School Cryptic Crossword Contest recognised as one of the biggest contests of its kind by the Limca Book of Records. The crossword contest was conducted during October to December 2020. In the final phase 40 teams qualified for the two-day grand finale conducted on December 5-6. The school became the only representative from the state to reach the finale and won the fourth position in the contest. This year eight students Hardeepinder Kaur Harpreet Singh Harshita Mankhushpreet Kaur ParthBhambri Simardeep Kaur Kiratpreet Kaur Vorain Gautam have been selected for this award category and have been honoured with scholar blazers.

      Ludhiana December 9The protest by PAU employees today entered 57th day. Protesting employees staged a rally in front of the Thapar Hall marched from the union office towards the Thapar Hall in the morning. Dr Harmeet Singh Kingra president PAU Teachers Association declared to go on fast unto death with immediate effect until all demands of teachers are met. Baldev Singh Walia president PAU Employees Union (recognized) said the executive of the PAU Employees Union today again have a meeting with authorities and a consensus was made over the demands.

      Ludhiana: The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science of Arya College organised a department-level power point presentation competition on 'Digital India'. Lalit Chauhan of BCA-I bagged the first position Neeraj from BA-II Computer Science got the second prize and Balram from BCA-II and Tarun from BA-III jointly grabbed the third prize. Principal Savita Uppal said that such competitions are a perfect tool to prepare the youth for the competitive corporate world. Ramandeep Kaur a student of GHG Khalsa College Gurusar Sadhar secured the first position in the compition by obtaining 100 per cent marks. Six students got second position while four students were placed at third position in the competition.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana December 8Two students of the Department of Zoology Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) brought laurels to their alma mater by qualifying the CSIR-UGC NET and bagged the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) fellowship. Vibhu Vaid another PhD scholar of the department was awarded the INSPIRE fellowship by the Department of Science and Technology Government of India to pursue her PhD research on “Single and combined effects of polyethylene microplastic and untreated sewage water on Common carp Cyprinus carpio L”. Mona Sharma a PhD research scholar of the Department of Zoology qualified the UGC-NET exam and was awarded Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) by CSIR-UGC for pursuing her PhD. Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon Vice-Chancellor PAU; Dr GK Sangha Dean Postgraduate Studies; and Dr Neena Singla Principal Zoologist (Rodents) and Head Department of Zoology congratulated both students.

A cavalcade of a number of vehicles today left for Kundli point to supply langar to farmers. “We salute our farmers who despite adverse weather conditions have refused to relent” Baba Narinder Singh said. Baba Major Singh Kaar Sewa in-charge of Sahnewal said “When our farming community needs our services it is our moral duty to come to their aid.       Our CorrespondentLudhiana December 7The Dugri police have made a recovery of 290 gm of an addictive substance on the basis of information provided by Harjinderpal Singh a resident of Bhagat Singh Nagar Colony and his accomplice Lal Singh a resident of Kot Isse Khan in Moga from the residence of Harjinderpal Singh in Bhagat Singh Nagar. The duo was already in police custody for the alleged kidnapping of a city hotelier's son and was being interrogated. The police said the accused Harjinderpal Singh had revealed during interrogation that he and Lal Singh were also involved in drug peddling. Another drug peddler heldThe police have nabbed another drug peddler identified as Abhijit Singh a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar Shimplapuri with habit-forming drugs.       Tribune News ServiceLudhiana December 7The district administration on Monday issued the first in-principle approval certificate (NOC) under the Punjab Right to Business Act 2020. Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma issued the in-principle approval to entrepreneur Inderjit Singh Sohal for the project named Harisar Industrial Corporation Unit No II for setting up a new unit for manufacturing plywood and laminate products. Highlighting the features of the Act Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said “Under this Act all NOCs related to setting up a new enterprise will be completed within three days in case of the proposed unit being located in focal point/industrial area/industrial park and within 15 days outside approved area after submitting an application on the Business First Portal. All formalities and NOCs related to the new business/startups will be awarded through this single-window in a stipulated time.”He said the first in-principle approval under the Right to Business Act had been given to the entrepreneur within 12 days from the date of application through a single-window Business First Portal.

      Ludhiana December 7The World Health Organization (WHO) awarded a research project on antibiotic resistance to the School of Public Health and Zoonoses of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The project will be headed by Dr Randhir Singh Professor School of Public Health and Zoonoses and his team. The school is actively working in the area of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) for last many years and has several national and international collaborations in this area. Dr Randhir Singh informed that the AMR is one of the major and important global health problems and their indiscriminate use in human and animal health sectors is mainly to blame for this. In his welcome remarks Dr Kuldeep Singh Head Department of Extension Education-cum- Associate Director KVK Jalandar shed light on the importance of World Soil Day. He also acquainted the participants with the theme - 'Keep soil alive protect soil biodiversity.'Soil scientist Arpandeep Kaur Boparai urged farmers to get soil tested for improving soil health and highlighted the benefits of judicious use of fertilisers. Meanwhile the DMCH conducted a week-long awareness drive against Covid in different areas of the city. Batting first after winning the toss Punjab XI scored 87 runs in 17.5 overs in which the main contribution came through skipper Bir Singh Sandhu who made 57 runs. Parmod Kumar state pracharak Wheelchair Support Society was the chief guest. Padam Passi chief organiser Ludhiana Deaf Cricket Federation gave away prizes to outstanding performers. Jasbir Singh sarpanch of the village along with Nirmal Singh and Tejinder Singh Dhaliwal was among others present during the prize distribution function.
