      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana November 28Hundred persons tested positive for Covid while five succumbed to the virus in the district today making the death toll cross 900. Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma today said under the “Mission Fateh” of the Punjab Government the number of coronavirus patients getting cured in Ludhiana district was increasing with each passing day. A total of 132 patients (100 new patients from the district and 32 from other states/districts) had tested positive in the last 24 hours. He said now the total number of patients related to Ludhiana was 22642 while 3209 patients were related to other districts/states. Now the total number of persons who had lost their lives included 902 from Ludhiana district and 378 from other districts.

      The meeting was also attended by the MC's Zonal Commissioner Swati Tiwana. Talwar said the residents of various colonies had been suffering due to pollution being caused by dyeing and washing units for a long time. The MLA said they had discussed the matter regarding ash emanating from the dyeing units and washing units and had given instructions to the officials concerned to take the required action against the erring units. If any factory is found violating the norms Punjab Pollution Control Board will take required action” he said. The owners of the factories had been asked to take the required steps to stop the pollution before the next meeting scheduled to be held on December 15.

Kuldip Singh and Pawan Kumar Kaushal of MCPI(U) Sukhdev Singh and Gurcharan Singh Laparan of AIKF addressed a meeting here at Krishan Kumar Kaushal Memorial Bhavan which was presided over by Gurcharan Singh today. Others who participated in the meeting were Surjit Singh Maloudh Amarjit Singh Khanna Joginder Singh Shehzad and Harbilas Kila Raipur. The government should not ignore the protests and agitation by the farmers” they added. The meeting decided to extend full support to the All India strike of Trade Unions on November 26 against the 'pro-corporate' sector amendments in labour laws.

      Ludhiana November 23The Skill Development Centre Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a two-day online training course on 'Precision Technologies for Fruits and Vegetables' for in-service candidates under the guidance of Dr Jaskarn Singh Mahal Director Extension Education. In total 19 agriculture horticulture and soil conservation officers and scientists from the PAU and its Krishi Vigyan Kendras attended the course. Dr Kiran Grover Principal Extension Scientist (Food and Nutrition) and course coordinator said implementing agricultural innovations was key for coping strategies in the context of climate change and food security. Dr Mahesh Kumar Narang Principal Extension Scientist (Farm Machinery and Power Engineering) and technical coordinator demonstrated types and uses of machinery for horticultural crops. Dr Rakesh Sharda an expert from the Department of Soil and Water Engineering explained the micro- irrigation system and polyhouse technology.

      Our CorrespondentLudhiana November 22Residents of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar colony of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) on Pakhowal Road here are up in arms over the indiscriminate cutting of full-grown trees theft of wood by labourers and the contractor and other irregularities with regards to award of work for the tree cutting in accordance with the approved estimate. In a complaint to the LIT Chairman and the Principal Secretary Local Government Punjab residents of the colony including Arvind Sharma former councillor Pran Nath Bhatia Amarjit Singh and Balraj Takkar alleged that the pruning of trees had been taken up by labourers of a contractor without any approved tender or work order. “At the same time chopped branches of trees and parts of tree trunks are not being accounted for and precious wood — the property of the LIT — is being misappropriated by the labourers and the contractor” the residents said. According to Arvind Sharma the estimate approved for the work required the contractor to account for the wood collection of pruned branches twigs and foliage and its propser disposal – which were not being done right now. The LIT officials however denied that the work for pruning of trees was being carried out by a contractor.

      Led by SHO Sukhdev Singh Brar the Dehlon police have registered an FIR under Sections 302 201 and 34 of the IPC against the victim's husband and his two brothers. The suspects were identified as Mohammad Shafiq her husband Mohammad Zakur of Madli Kog in Kathua district and Mohammad Faruq of Paddi village in Ludhiana district. On November 10 Mohammad Faruq informed Kadir Hussain about the sudden death of Shanu following which her body was taken to Madli Kog village and buried as usual. Subash Kataria an official at the Dehlon police station said an investigation had been initiated to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the death of the victim. He said a team of police personnel led by Ranjit Singh would leave for Jammu to arrest the suspects with the help of the Jammu and Kashmir police.

TNSHouse burgled at SBS NagarLudhiana: The police on Sunday booked unidentified persons for stealing cash gold and other valuables from a house at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar Ludhiana. A case under sections of 457 and 380 of the IPC has been registered at the Dugri police station against unidentified accused.

      Ludhiana November 21Two groups that were engaged in gambling at Chawni Mohalla clashed and members of one group fired gunshots at the other group members last night. Those booked were identified as Rohit Thakur and Rinki of the Daresi road Jinki Sahota of Meena Bazaar Shiva and some unknown persons. Last night he along with Jinki Rinki Shiva and Rohit was gambling near the Daresi ground. Around 10 pm his father and father's sister were standing near his house when Rohit Jinki Rinki and unknown persons armed with sharp weapons and guns cornered him. “When I protested the move of the accused they fired gunshots at me and my father but we didn't suffer any injury” alleged the victim.

      Ludhiana November 21A married woman eloped with her alleged paramour and decamped with cash and valuables worth several lakhs from her in-laws' house in Jagraon. The Sadar police Jagraon registered a case against the woman Kamalpreet Kaur her paramour Tajinderpal Singh of Gholia Khurd Moga and two unknown persons. Later in the morning his daughter-in-law Kamalpreet told him that her uncle was to visit their house and she had to go to the bus stand to receive him. The complainant said he later submitted a complaint and a case was registered by the Jagraon Sadar police against his daughter-in-law her paramour and two unknown persons who were aides of Tajinderpal. The police said the woman and her paramour were arrested today and raids were on to nab the remaining accused who helped them elope.

His last rites were performed at Sri Guru Amar Das Hospital Ground today. Baba Jaswant Singh was a noted and widely respected religious leader who was followed by people due to his selfless services. He was instrumental in setting up the BJS Dental College Ludhiana in 1998. A condolence meeting to mourn his demise was held at the BJS Dental College and Hospital Ludhiana by staff students and the management.

    • Sports fraternity mourns Olympian hurdler Jagmohan Singh s death | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Sports CorrespondentLudhiana November 20The Satish Chander Dhawan Government College Alumni Association Ludhiana and sports fraternity mourned the death of the multi-faceted sportsperson and Olympian hurdler Jagmohan Singh (88) who breathed his last in Patiala on Tuesday. Jagmohan was born on April 1 1932 at Rajoana Kalan village in the district. He while studying here created a new meet record in hurdles in the All-India Inter-Universities Athletics Meet in 1952. Jagmohan who was a science graduate from the local SCD Government College Dr RL Anand Dr Muthiah Balkishan Singh and Gurbaksh Singh were instrumental in conducting the 1982 Asian Games in Delhi. He made the college proud Goyal said.

While the Ludhiana and Sangrur administrations led by Deputy Commissioners Varinder Kumar Sharma and Ramvir respectively claimed to have made arrangements for following the guidelines on the prevention of Covid-19 during scheduled camps potential voters have been requested to get the needful done through an online helpline on the issue and National Voters' Service Portal (NVSP). Raikot SDM Dr Himanshu Gupta and Ahmedgarh SDM Vikramjit Singh Panthey said the administration had already started the process for electoral updating for legislative segments of Raikot Malerkotla and Amargarh. “Having received instructions from the Sangrur Deputy Commissioner we have initiated a process for special summary revision for legislative assembly 105 and 106 in pursuance of guidelines of the Election Commission” said SDM Panthey adding that the revision work would be continued till December 15.
