The college organised a virtual poster-making competition on the theme of 'Mother Earth'.     • Man injures jeweller steals silver chain | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana April 22A man posing as customer stole a silver chain from a jewellery shop at Saroop Nagar in Salem Tabri. The suspect also injured jeweller when the latter tried to prevent him from stealing chain. Complainant Ranjit Singh of Pritam Nagar Haibowal stated to the police that yesterday a man posing as customer came to his jewellery showroom and asked for a silver chain. During this exercise I saw the suspect steal one silver chain and slip it in his pocket. Investigation officer ASI Prem Singh said the police had got some clues about the suspect and he would be nabbed soon.

      Ludhiana April 21Amid surge in Covid-19 cases residents demand that the MC should restart disinfection drives at public places and other locations in the city for the prevention of the virus. The MC had deployed some fire tenders and jetting machines to conduct disinfectant spray in the city in 2020. The MC and district administration should conduct a special sanitisation drive in the city. The disinfectant spray must be done at public places markets and other areas.”A resident said “The MC should conduct the disinfectant spray at all public places. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said they were planning to start a sanitisation drive in the city.
    • Three women among 10 nabbed with heroin | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana April 21The Special Task Force has nabbed five persons including two women and recovered 1.20 kg of heroin from their possession. One of the women Jaswinder Kaur was a former member of the Istri Akali Dal said sources. Meanwhile the Ludhiana rural police nabbed five persons and recovered heroin from them in two separate cases. In the first case the Jagraon police nabbed three persons Balwinder Kaur recovered 10 gm of heroin and a Maruti Swift car from them. In another incident the Sidhwan Bet police nabbed Puran Singh and Satpal Singh of Bhundri and recovered 25 gm of heroin from them.

      Our CorrespondentLudhiana April 21In the wake of surge in Covid-19 cases in the city the Northern Railway have announced suspension of sale of platform tickets in the city with immediate effect. Divisional Railway Manager Ferozepur Division Rajesh Aggarwal said the platform tickets would not be sold from today till further notice. He has also made a appeal to rail travellers to maintain discipline with regard to preventive measures against the spread of the virus by wearing masks maintenance of personal hygiene and keeping social distancing on railway platforms and while travelling in trains. Meanwhile the railway authorities have announced cancellation of unreserved pair of 04635/56 Ludhiana-Ferozepur-Ludhiana passenger train till further notice. The reason given for the suspension of the train was low occupancy on the route.
    • Elderly woman s earring snatched | LUDHIANA NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana April 21Two bike-borne snatchers targeted an elderly woman at Punjab Mata Nagar yesterday and snatched her gold earring. The victim Surinder Kaur (67) a resident of Punjab Mata Nagar on Dugri Road told the police that on Tuesday morning when she was standing outside her house two-bike borne persons who were wearing turbans and masks suddenly pounced on her and snatched her one earring. When they tried to snatch the second earring she raised an alarm after which they fled the spot. The victim said after the incident the Dugri police were informed about the crime and the police reached the spot. The accused were also captured in CCTV cameras and the police were checking the footage to identify them.

      Ludhiana April 21The Ludhiana Halwai Association today expressed concern over cancellation of orders owing to the surge in Covid-19 cases and strict guidelines issued by the government. “From April 22 to May 3 there was a heavy wedding season and businesses had got bulk orders of sweets. The association members also maintained that maximum orders were for April 30. We have already purchased the raw material for making sweets. These are real difficult times as the prices of raw material are also sky rocketing and orders are being cancelled” said another sweet-shop owner.

    • Man nabbed for murder | LUDHIANA NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana April 20The Ludhiana police claimed to have solved the blind murder case in which a body was found near the Sidhwan canal on April 16. The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Abitab of Dhuri Lines native of Bihar. On April 16 Mohammad Firoz was found dead and his body had severe injury marks. The police had then registered a murder case against unknown persons. The police said during investigation the police found the role of the accused in the murder and when he was rounded up he confessed to the crime.

The residents have demanded from the MC to ensure safe water supply in the ward. It is learned that the water supply has got affected in several areas of Dugri village Himmat Nagar and nearby Nirmal Nagar in the ward. A resident said: “There is a shortage of water supply in our area as the nearby tubewell is not functioning. The tubewell which was pumping out sand with water will be made functional by Wednesday” he said.

    • Ludhiana district ranks fourth in per million Covid 19 vaccination in Punjab | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Nitin JainTribune News ServiceLudhiana April 19Ludhiana which was the first district in the state to launch vaccination at doorstep by holding mobile camps has ranked fourth in the per million Covid inoculation in the state. Ludhiana also stood fourth when it comes to the analysis of total dose coverage per million population. The district had inoculated 136869 persons with both doses of the vaccine which was much higher than the state average of 100200. Similarly 159400 jabs of Covaxin were still in stock after utilisation of 174680 of the total 334080 doses received till now. However of the total two deaths following immunisation reported in the state till date a 57-year-old male patient had died in Ludhiana.

      Our CorrespondentLudhiana April 19The police have booked Bharat Ketal a resident of Netaji Park Haibowal under Section 379 IPC for allegedly stealing an ATM card of his friend and withdrawing Rs 2 lakh from his savings bank account of Oriental Bank of Commerce through ATMs on different dates. Complainant Mithun a resident of Naveen Nagar Jassian Road told the police that the accused who was his former room-mate had stolen his ATM card and had withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from his bank account on different dates. He said he came to know about the withdrawals when he got his mobile phone connection restored after his cell phone handset was lost somewhere. The involvement of the accused was known from the CCTV footage of an ATM lobby. The police were investigating the matter but no arrest had been made so far he said.

      Ludhiana April 19Ten days after Ludhiana Central Jail Superintendent Rajiv Arora hosted Punjabi singer Karan Aujla on the prison premises the officer has been chargesheeted and transferred to Chandigarh. The action by the Prisons Department follows an inquiry into the incident by DIG (Jails) SS Saini who was assigned the probe by ADGP (Prisons) PK Sinha. Principal Secretary (Prisons) DK Tiwari told The Tribune the department had transferred the jail superintendent from the Ludhiana jail to the state headquarters in Chandigarh following receipt of the inquiry report. “Departmental action will follow” he said adding the action was taken after the minister approved the report to this effect. The ADGP (Prisons) said he had submitted the report to the state government for suitable action.

On the recommendation given by Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal has issued an order to officials to create awareness among people to send their complaints via email instead of visiting the MC offices. All zonal commissioners have been directed to keep a complaint box outside main gates of zonal offices to receive complaints. The Commissioner has ordered the zonal commissioners to deploy staff at entry points to MC offices with sanitisers and thermal scanners.
