Residents maintain that though the façade of the entry point of the colony from Ferozepur Road looks inviting the real picture of utter neglect insanitary conditions heaps of garbage debris and fallen foliage greets the visitors. Residents are living in unhygienic conditions with the threat of break out of diseases looming large on their heads” says PS Bhogal a resident. LIT Superintending Engineer Buta Ram said tenders had already been invited for sanitation work in Rajguru Nagar and these would be opened and work allotted to eligible bidder in next 2-3 days. “Regular sweeping along with collection and disposal of garbage will be put in place in next few days” he claimed.

      Our CorrespondentLudhiana April 19The police have booked Bharat Ketal a resident of Netaji Park Haibowal under Section 379 IPC for allegedly stealing an ATM card of his friend and withdrawing Rs 2 lakh from his savings bank account of Oriental Bank of Commerce through ATMs on different dates. Complainant Mithun a resident of Naveen Nagar Jassian Road told the police that the accused who was his former room-mate had stolen his ATM card and had withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from his bank account on different dates. He said he came to know about the withdrawals when he got his mobile phone connection restored after his cell phone handset was lost somewhere. The involvement of the accused was known from the CCTV footage of an ATM lobby. The police were investigating the matter but no arrest had been made so far he said.
    • NGO member stages protest against gas godown near school | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana April 18Kumar Gaurav alias Sacha Yadav a member of NGO Yuvaa today held a protest against the gas godown situated near Police DAV School Police Lines. He took an empty gas cylinder along with him to warn the authorities of the mishappening that can occur in the gas godown risking lives of hundreds of students and the police authorities in the school and police station located nearby. The police stopped told him that he could not hold a protest inside Police Lines that too with a gas cylinder. The police officials listened to his demands and assured that concerned matter would be raised before senior authorities to shift the gas godown. “I have already written a letter to the state government and administrative officials of Ludhiana demanding an immediate shifting of the godown so that lives of school students are not at risk” said Yadav.

    • Four nabbed with opium drug money in Ludhiana | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana April 18The Khanna city police arrested four smugglers with one kg of opium and Rs 2.10 lakh drug money. The accused have been identified as Lakhvir Singh of Burj Hari Singh Rachpal Singh of Godwal village Amandeep Singh of Godwal and Inderpreet Singh of Raikot. Accordingly a police party laid a naka and after intercepting a Maruti Alto car the accused were arrested. During the search of the car opium and the drug money were recovered. The ASI said the police remand of the accused would be sought for further interrogation.

      Ludhiana April 17In a statement issued the Ludhiana police revealed that the police carried a special campaign to check night curfew violations. Nine cases of violations were registered against 12 persons during the drive. The police said the booked persons include shopkeepers roadside vendors and other residents.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana April 17The Municipal Corporation (MC) has done registration of over 2000 pets in the city. The pet registration process was launched last year by the civic body. Now it is planning to give exemption to some categories from Rs 400 fee for pet registration. MC's veterinary services in charge Dr Harbans Dhalla said a proposal had been prepared for giving exemption of registration fee to some categories. The pet registration was made mandatory must in June 2020 in areas under the jurisdiction of the civic body” he said.

      Ludhiana April 17Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today informed that a total of 2.5 lakh MT wheat has been procured in the district since the procurement began. More than nine lakhs metric ton of wheat was expected to be procured he added. In the wake of inclement weather conditions Sharma today asked all procurement agencies to take necessary steps to ensure that the grain procured is not damaged. The DC said the administration had set up additional 124 purchase centres besides the already existing 108 permanent grain markets across the district to purchase wheat by maintaining social-distancing norms. He also asked the procurement agencies to ensure the provision of tarpaulins in every grain market.

      Tribune News ServiceLudhiana April 17The anti-smuggling cell of the city police conducted raids on villages alongside the Sutlej and recovered 50000 litres of 'lahan'. The 'lahan' was destroyed on the spot. The police booked eight persons —Khandi Sukhraj Singh Shinda Jagdish Singh Modi Maninder Singh Chamkor Singh Kuldeep Singh and Butti Singh. Anti-smuggling cell in-charge Yashpal Sharma said raids were conducted on Bholewal Jadid Rajapur Khaira Bet and other villages. He said the police also recovered other material used to distil illicit liquor.

      Ludhiana April 17When news about shortage of oxygen for Covid patients from many parts of the country was making the former anxious what has come as a big relief is that an oxygen plant has been set up at the Civil Hospital here which was inaugurated yesterday. Earlier the hospital used to outsource oxygen cylinders and the cost of a cylinder was Rs 250. Sometimes there were complaints of delayed supply of cylinders. The plant was inaugurated by MLA Surinder Dawar. Senior Medical Officer Amarjeet Kaur said now there would be no shortage of oxygen for patients as the Civil Hospital is self-sufficient after the setting up of the oxygen plant.

      Ludhiana April 16A 22-year-old youth was killed in a road mishap at Sarabha Nagar after his motorcycle was hit by a speedy and rashly driven mini-truck near Iyali Chowk. The youth had met with an accident on Wednesday and he had suffered serious head injuries. The Sarabha Nagar police have registered a case against the truck driver identified as Sunil Kumar a resident of Rajjowal village. When he reached near Iyali Chowk the truck driver hit his son's bike due to which his son fell away from the main road. Investigating officer ASI Onkar Singh said a case was registered against the truck driver.

    • 6 dead 482 positive in Ludhiana | LUDHIANA NYOOOZ
      As many as 43 persons came in contact with positive patients 98 visited OPD and 248 with influenza-like illness visited Flu Corner. At present 30 patients — 20 from Ludhiana and 10 from other districts or states — have been put on ventilator support. A total of 542 patients (482 new patients from Ludhiana district and 60 from other states/districts) had tested positive in the last 24 hours. He said now the total number of patients belonging to Ludhiana was 40945 while 6424 patients belonged to other districts/states. As many as 1226 persons from Ludhiana and 634 from other districts had lost their live till now he said.

      Ludhiana April 16The Excise Department recovered huge quantity of 'lahan' during a raid conducted under the Operation Red Rose today. A joint raid was conducted under the supervision of Dewan Chand Sharma EO (West B Ludhiana) in the Sidhwan Bet area by the excise team said department. During search on both sides of the river at Akuwal Chandigarh dia Channa Behran Tahli dia Channa Gorsian Khan Muhammad and Madupur villages falling in the Sidhwan Bet area the excise team recovered big/small tarpaulins from which 48000 litres of 'lahan' was recovered the department added. The recovered 'lahan' was destroyed the department said. Besides big plastic tubes with 250 bottles of illicit country liquor 10 big iron drums plastic pipes and wood were also recovered during raid the department added.

      Ludhiana April 16Despite repeated demands by a street vendors' union the Municipal Corporation (MC) is delaying the process to set up vending zones for the vendors in the city. Tiger Singh secretary north unit of the National Association of Street Vendors (NASVI) said the civic body was yet to set up vending zones for the street vendors. Till the vending zones were not set up no fee should be collected from the vendors to run their business at identified sites. “We are getting reports of undue restrictions harassment and even heavy fines imposed on the street vendors in the state. How can the evening vendors survive?”They also demanded that the street vendors must be vaccinated on a priority basis.

The session was attended by Rupinder Kaur Sra ADCP (VI) along with her team including Simranjit Singh ACP (Industrial Area-A) Davinder Kumar Sharma SHO Focal Point and Jaswinder Singh technical expert and in-charge Safe City Project Ludhiana. Issues like snatching active extortion groups illegal 'khokhas' and scrap dealers in industrial areas were also taken up during the session. The ADCP (IV) assured industry members regarding activation of defunct PCR halts in industrial areas to reduce the crime graph. She also requested associations to installing CCTV cameras and giving their access to the police control room for better surveillance.
