      Ludhiana April 15The state Education Department has asked management of government schools to be ready for “School darshan” on Friday. The initiative is being taken for parents to make them aware about the facilities being provided by government schools to increase enrolment. A principal of a government school here said the timing of the initiative was wrong. “Hundreds of teachers and students have already tested positive for Covid and a few teachers have lost their lives to the virus as well. The Education Department should have waited for a while before initiating such campaigns” he said.

      Nikhil BhardwajTribune News ServiceLudhiana April 15Over 45 days have lapsed since the police recovered 1.29 lakh tablets from the house owned by BJP leader Satish Nagar's wife at Chawani Mohalla but still there is no clarity on the role of the BJP leader in the case. The police had registered a case against the BJP leader along with others namely Anup Sharma Hemant and Rajinder under the NDPS Act. Reportedly the police had allegedly released the BJP leader under political pressure. When asked why the role of the BJP leader is still not clear even after 45 days since the incident the Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal who had formed a special investigations team (SIT) to investigate the role of BJP leader told The Tribune “The role of BJP leader is still being verified. I will take up the matter with CM Capt Amarinder Singh.”

As many as 489 fresh cases from Ludhiana and 79 from other districts or states have been reported here today. At present there are 3501 active cases in Ludhiana district. The total number of patients related to Ludhiana district is 40463 and 6364 patients belong to other districts/states. Besides 1221 persons from Ludhiana and 631 from other districts or states have lost their lives due to Covid so far.
    • Two nabbed with illegal weapons | LUDHIANA NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana April 15The crime branch of the city police nabbed two persons and recovered illegal weapons from their possession. The accused have been identified as Aslam alias Gugli (22) and Sunil Kumar Kaka (32) both residents of Bhattian village. ACP (crime) Mandeep Singh said two .32 bore pistols eight live cartridges and four magazines were recovered from the accused. The ACP said a tip-off was received that the two accused were carrying illegal weapons and they were roaming near Metro mall. Accordingly the police party conducted a raid and nabbed the duo.

      Kuldip BhatiaLudhiana April 15Activists of the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) led by district president Gurdeep Singh Gosha along with 'aggrieved' street vendors today staged a dharna at the B-zone office of the Municipal Corporation in protest against the alleged highhandedness of the MC tehbazari staff against street vendors. The protest was organised by former councillor Radhey Shyam and Rajesh Mishra in support of the Rehri-Farri Union. Speaking on the occasion Gosha said from the inception of the Congress rule in the MC and the state street vendors were suffering. MC officials had made several promises to set up vending zones to accommodate the rehri and farriwalas but even before the promised vending zones were marked and vendors could be shifted to their allotted places the traffic police and tehbazari staff of the MC had started harassing the vendors by confiscating their means of livelihood. The government and the MC were constitutionally bound to safeguard the interests of the street vendors in accordance with National Street Vendors Policy Gosha added.

MGM holds vaccination campMGM Public School organised a Covid-19 vaccination camp on the campus. The camp was held under the supervision of the Ludhiana Civil Surgeon. The school principal and the Civil Surgeon urged the attendees to motivate more people to get vaccinated to curb the spread of the virus.

Civil Surgeon Dr Sukhjiwan Kakkar told the media today that “in Ludhiana no person has died due to Covid-19 vaccination. The man died due to tuberculosis of the lungs.” He said Jagdish Prasad (57 years' old) a resident of Shimla Puri got jab on April 9 2021 at a private hospital in Ludhiana. After being referred by various private hospitals he was admitted to the Civil Hospital Ludhiana on April 13 and the rapid test report was negative. The Civil Surgeon said investigation would be carried out by the State-Level Committee on Adverse Events Following Immunisation.

During the visits in Sahnewal and Gill Road Grain Markets Sharma and Agrawal showed the satisfaction on the procurement operations and asked the officers to make sure that every single grain of wheat was procured and lifted without any sort of delay and at the same time the social distancing masking must be maintained in the grain markets to prevent Covid-19 pandemic. They said that the officers must ensure the facilities of hand washing soaps masks to all the farmers labourers and others keeping in view of the prevailing circumstances.

      Ludhiana April 14The police have claimed to have solved an incident of robbery occurred at the residence of Municipal Corporation Superintendent Avinash Sharma in the Model Town locality here. The robbery was allegedly committed by a temporary domestic servant along with his two accomplices on April 10. One of the four accused Sanjay Kumar a native of Nepal was arrested from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh on April 11. During preliminary interrogation Sanjay told the police that Rajesh had told them about cash jewellery and other valuables in the house following which the robbery plan was hatched. The police said teams had been sent to different places to nab the prime accused Rajesh Bahadur said to be a resident of Vasai in Palghar district of Maharashtra and his accomplice.

Showing satisfaction over the virus control initiatives Union Textiles Secretary VK Singh stressed the need to ensure vaccination of all eligible persons in the district. He told him that to keep a close watch on the entire situation senior officials had been made in-charge of different aspects of Covid. He informed that the district administration was undertaking the “vaccination at doorstep” initiative under which vaccination camps were being organised in different parts of the district.       Ludhiana April 14A factory worker lost his life while another was critically injured in two separate road accidents on city roads. Pardeep Singh (38) a resident of Khakat village was killed when a speeding car rammed into a motorcycle (PB-91L-1785) near canal bridge at Pawa village on the evening of April 11. Avinash Pandey a co-worker who was driving the two-wheeler told the police that a car bearing registration no PB-10CU-0140 hit the motorcycle injuring both the riders. He said later Pradeep Singh who was taken to the PGI Chandigarh for treatment succumbed to injuries. In another case of reckless driving one Sonu Kumar a resident of Chandra Lok Colony on Rahon Road was critically injured when a speeding truck without any number plate hit his bicycle from behind near Basti Jodhewal Chowk.

      Tribune News serviceLudhiana April 13The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized banned photocopy machines worth crores after searching two containers which came from Dubai. Three months ago on the orders of Additional Director General DRI Nitin Saini Ludhiana officials had confiscated the containers for evading custom duty. Patiala-based firm Khalsa Enterprises had kept these containers at Container Freight Station (CFS) Ramgarh and had not got them released since December 27 2020. In the papers it was mentioned that the containers were containing metal scrap but when the same were checked they contained metal scrap on the top but under them there were 60 old photostat machines. The market value of the machines is worth crores.

      Our CorrespondentRaikot April 13The Raikot police have solved a blind murder case of a peasant and a dairy farmer of Barundi village Rajinder Singh who was brutally murdered on the outskirts of the village during the wee hours on March 23. A police team led by Raikot DSP Sukhnaj Singh and Sadar SHO Ajaib Singh has arrested all five accused from various places. Investigations revealed that the accused had conspired to kill Rajinder during a meeting held at the residence of Harwinder Singh on the intervening night of March 22 and 23. Another case solved 1 heldThe Ludhiana rural police claimed to have solved a blind murder of an unknown person whose mutilated body was found from a sewerage drain in Jagraon over two months ago. The accused identified as Javed of Jamia Nagar in Shaheen Bagh Delhi was arrested.
