Tribune News ServiceLudhiana January 28The District Level Environment Committee has given directions to GLADA to take action against the proponents of the illegal colonies who have joined the sewerage connection with the MC sewer line particularly on Pakhowal Road Ludhiana thereby increasing the pollution load of the STPs of the city which are already operating short on capacity.
The committee has also directed the civic body to ensure the regular and efficient operation of the sewage treatment plants installed in the city and also ensure that the new STPs are set up and the existing STPs are upgraded/rehabilitated as per the timelines prescribed in the comprehensive plan.
A meeting of District Level Environment Committee was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Virender Sharma with all stakeholder departments to review the progress for the implementation of various action plans to control pollution in the district on Thursday.
Meanwhile the Punjab Pollution Control Board was directed to ensure that the construction work of the ongoing dyeing CETPs of the capacity 50 MLD and 40 MLD for Tajpur Road and Focal Point cluster respectively should be completed at the earliest.
The chairman of the committee also directed the MCL officials to ensure that the municipal solid waste was handled properly in an environmentally sound manner and full treatment of the solid waste by A to Z management facility on Tajpur Road.

In the boys' U-17 category Gymkhana Club overpowered Joy Brothers Academy 52-40 whereas in the girls' section Guru Nanak Club outperformed BIS Club 35-20.
In other matches in the boys U-17 group DGSG Public School outplayed Police Lines Club 15-6 and Doraha Public School outnumbered DAV Hawks 56-31 while in the girl's U-17 section DAV International Public School faced a stiff challenge from DAV Hawks before coming out triumphant by a narrow margin of two points (38-36).

According to the Punjab Agricultural University's Agricultural Meteorology Department Thursday's maximum temperature recorded was 20.6°C while minimum temperature was 3°C.

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana January 29Demanding regularisation of their jobs the protest of teachers associated with the Punjab & Chandigarh College Teachers' Union (PCCTU) entered the ninth day at Arya College campus on Friday.
The deadlock between the protesting teachers and the management still continues.
The protesting teachers told that till date no representative from the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha Punjab approached the protesting teachers' and responded to the continuous reminders of the PCCTU.
“It appears that the Arya College Management Committee Ludhiana is in no mood to regularise the services of 18 assistant professors working in their institution.
It may be important to mention here again that the same decision is being implemented by rest of the college managements in Punjab.

Ludhiana: A box containing 25-30 mobile hand sets of different companies were stolen from a mini-truck parked outside the office of a logistic company near Jalandhar Bypass when the vehicle of the firm brought the material to its office.
The complainant said the accused had taken 75 blank and signed cheques of Bank of India from him on the promise of getting him a loan of Rs 5.30 lakh.
He said he had also given his Aadhaar card an ATM card and a PAN card to the accused in good faith.
“However the duo filled an amount of Rs 1 lakh on one of the cheques and presented it in the bank which was dishonoured” he said.
He alleged that they had cheated him by presenting the cheque in the bank with the intention of fraudulently withdrawing money from his account.
